Job Description

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory (NNL) is looking for a skilled Cloud Engineer to design, deploy, administer, and support enterprise-grade Red Hat OpenShift container platforms running mission-critical workloads across on-premises and cloud environments. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Kubernetes, containerization technologies, automation, infrastructure as code, and cloud platforms, with a passion for building secure, scalable, and highly available containerized environments.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Deploy, configure, and administer Red Hat OpenShift clusters across development, testing, and production environments.
  • Manage, monitor, and optimize Kubernetes workloads to ensure high availability, scalability, and performance.

  • Automate infrastructure provisioning and platform management using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools.
  • Collaborate with development, DevOps, infrastructure, and security teams to deliver reliable container platform solutions.
  • Maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and platform standards.
Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
  1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university and a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience; or
  2. Master's degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.
Preferred Skills
  • 2-3 years of hands‑on experience with container technologies, administration and support.
  • Experience Kubernetes architecture and workload management.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD tools.
  • Experience with automation tools.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code.
  • Experience working with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS).
  • Familiarity with container image security.
  • Experience with Kubernetes/OpenShift security features such as RBAC, network policies, pod security, secrets management.
  • Experience with Helm and Kustomize.
  • Strong ability to lead, and collaborate.

Pay Range

$78,700.00 - $120,500.00 annually

Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities: Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense‑owned Nuclear Power Training Unit‑Charleston. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations. For nearly 70 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world‑class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is a national asset solely dedicated to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program.
