Job summary

Harris School Solutions is seeking an intermediate Software Developer for the NextGen R&D team. You will support a mature K-12 financial platform, modernize legacy components, and contribute to NextGen 2.0 using C#, Blazor, and WiseJ.

You will leverage AI-assisted development tools, document findings, and gradually own modules while learning complex business logic and dependencies in a multi-technology environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent experience.
• Typically 3–7 years of professional software development experience.
• Strong fundamentals with C#, .NET, Java, TypeScript or similar stack.
• Ability to read, debug, modify, and validate code in a complex existing application.
• Experience with relational databases, preferably SQL Server, incl. writing queries and troubleshooting data issues.
• Experience with Git-based development workflows (Azure DevOps, GitHub or similar).
• Exposure to web app development, APIs, and modern architectures.
• Experience using AI coding assistants or AI-powered development tools.
• Ability to validate AI-generated code, analysis, or docs with sound engineering judgment.
• Willingness to work with legacy codebases.

Responsibilities

• Maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the NextGen Classic application (VB6, SQL Server, Excel macros, legacy tech).
• Contribute to NextGen 2.0 modernization, bug fixes, APIs, and customer-driven features.
• Use AI-assisted and agentic development tools to accelerate code analysis, debugging, testing, docs, and knowledge capture.
• Learn and document complex business logic and K-12 finance domain concepts.
• Migrate legacy functionality to .NET-based services, APIs, and web components.
• Write and maintain SQL queries, stored procedures, and data troubleshooting tools.
• Support deployments, releases, hotfixes, QA, and production troubleshooting.
• Collaborate with Product, Professional Services, Support, QA, and R&D to deliver solutions.
• Contribute to internal docs and AI-ready knowledge bases.
