Amazon is seeking a Software Development Engineer II for the Aurora Open Source Engines team in Redmond, WA. You will own architecture and implementation of high‑quality distributed database components, mentoring junior engineers and collaborating across teams.

You will design, implement, test, deploy, and maintain software to improve performance, durability, and security of Aurora PostgreSQL, a cloud‑native, fully managed database service used by internal and external customers.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience.
• 2+ years of non‑internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems.
• 1+ year of experience in C++, Rust, or a related programming language.

About the Role

As a Software Dev Engineer II, you will design and develop system‑level components for Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL, a cloud‑native, fully managed relational database engine that blends open‑source flexibility with enterprise‑grade performance, availability, and durability. You will own the architecture, implementation, and ongoing improvement of high‑quality, highly available, and scalable distributed database systems, while mentoring junior engineers and collaborating across teams.

Basic Qualifications

• 3+ years of non‑internship professional software development experience.
• 2+ years of non‑internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
• 3+ years of full software development life cycle experience, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
• Experience with large‑scale distributed systems and database internals.
• Strong communication, leadership, and customer focus.

Benefits

Base salary range: 143,700.00 – 194,400.00 USD annually. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
