Job summary

Amazon Lab126 is seeking a software professional to design, develop, and optimize the cellular telephony framework and services layer on Android-based devices, delivering reliable voice, data, messaging, and connectivity experiences.

The role owns the application processor side of the mobile telephony stack, integrating carrier requirements and platform telephony APIs across devices. Requires 3+ years of relevant experience and a Bachelor's degree.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of contributing to new and current systems architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) experience.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and implement core telephony framework components including calling, data connectivity, messaging, and advanced features such as Wi-Fi calling, eSIM provisioning, and 5G integration.
  • Optimize telephony stack performance for call setup latency, network registration, and power efficiency across diverse carrier networks and device configurations.
  • Partner with product management to translate customer experience goals into technical designs and implementation.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with modem/baseband, OS platform, QA/certification, and cloud services teams to deliver differentiated telephony features end-to-end.
  • Lead and participate in design reviews, taking ownership of critical architectural decisions and driving resolution of complex technical issues.

Key job responsibilities

Design, develop, and optimize the cellular telephony framework and services layer on Android-based devices, delivering reliable voice, data, messaging, and connectivity experiences. This role owns the application processor side of the mobile telephony stack, integrating carrier requirements, platform telephony APIs, and cellular service features across various devices.

  • Architect and implement core telephony framework components including calling, data connectivity, messaging, and advanced features such as Wi-Fi calling, eSIM provisioning, and 5G integration.

About The Team

We own the cellular services on various devices, building the software that connects people through voice, data, and messaging every day. We work closely with OS platform teams, QA/certification, cloud services, and product management to deliver reliable connectivity experiences across diverse carrier networks and device configurations. We take ownership of the performance and reliability that users depend on for their most fundamental connectivity experiences.

Basic Qualifications
  • 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • 2+ years of contributing to new and current systems architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) experience
  • Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
  • 3+ years of Android development experience
  • Experience solving problems with technology in the Telecommunications industry

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
