Job summary

Key job responsibilities
  • You solve difficult problems, applying appropriate technologies and best practices.
  • You work with your team to invent, design and build software that is stable and performant.
  • You are proficient in a broad range of design approaches and know when it is appropriate to use them (and when it is not). Your solutions are pragmatic.
  • You consider the legacy of the code you produce and write code that an SDE unfamiliar with the system can understand.
  • You limit the use of short-term workarounds. You do things with the proper level of complexity the first time (or at least minimize incidental complexity).
  • You create flexible software without over-engineering. You make appropriate trade-offs, re-use where possible, and are judicious about introducing dependencies.
  • You are efficient with resource usage (e.g., system hardware, database, memory/CPU, etc.)
  • You work on project ideas with customers, stakeholders, and peers
A day in the life
  1. Collaborating with project teams across various themes like core platform development, software compliance, and financial optimization.
  2. Engaging in technical discussions and brainstorming sessions to devise software strategies.
  3. Active participation in our development sprints, reviewing code, and ensuring the implementation of best practices.
  4. Interacting with stakeholders, understanding their needs, and translating them into technical solutions.
  5. Mentoring team members (SDE1), providing guidance, and fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
  6. Regularly reviewing and optimising existing systems and processes for better efficiency and performance.
About the team

The CSTRAC team is the authoritative source for answering the question: "Where is my stuff?" to the customer. We empower customers to control where and when they receive their package even as their package is in flight. CSTRAC is product-driven. We own the customer-facing Package Tracking page as well as its backend services. As the majority owner of the tracking experience product vertical, CSTRAC streamlines front-end and back-end development to deliver results with a significant reduction in time-to-market. Our SDEs focus on providing a state-of-the-art, extensible, and modular service architecture that allows our FEEs to consume current and consistent tracking data. Our FEEs leverage the backend systems to craft engaging user experiences that spark customer delight.

Basic Qualifications
  • - 3+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • - 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • - 1+ years of software development engineer or related occupational experience
  • - 1+ years of designing and developing large-scale, multi-tiered, multi-threaded, embedded or distributed software applications, tools, systems, and services using: C#, C++, Java, or Perl experience
  • - 1+ years of Object Oriented Design experience
  • - Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field
  • - Experience programming with at least one software programming language
Preferred Qualifications
  • - 3+ years of full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations experience
  • - Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent
