Job summary

Daktronics offers a Software Design Student internship based in Brookings, SD, with opportunities to work on cutting-edge digital LED displays and audio systems. You’ll gain hands-on experience, mentorship, and exposure to multiple facets of the software world, including testing, development, and collaboration within an agile team.

You’ll contribute to automated testing, learn to use tools like Visual Studio, and work with languages such as C++, C#, and JavaScript.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a 12+ credit Bachelor’s degree program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Find and report software deficiencies.
• Assist in manual testing of software.
• Track test results and quality metrics.
• Write unit tests for new and existing code.
• Create automated test scripts for regression testing.
• Develop, debug, and maintain software applications using Microsoft Visual Studio.
• Develop software using languages like C#, C++, JavaScript, and tools like Salesforce, Azure, Angular.
• Leverage AI tools to improve testing efficiency and code quality.
• Work with a team to solve problems and deliver quality work.
• Perform other duties as needed or assigned.

• Finding and reporting software deficiencies.
• Assist in manual testing of software.

• Work with users and Daktronics personnel to answer questions and resolve problems.
• Create automated test scripts for regression testing.
• Create automated tests from approved 3 rd party tools.
• Develop, debug, and maintain software applications using Microsoft Visual Studio.
• Develop and support software applications using development languages like C#, C++, JavaScript, etc. and other software development tools like Salesforce, Azure, Angular, and other cloud-based services.
• Leverage AI tools to enhance testing efficiency and code quality, accelerate debugging, and support the exploration of new technical solutions.
• Work within a development team to solve problems.
• Write unit tests for new code and existing code.
• Complete quality work in a timely manner.
• Assist in the development of software product requirements and design documentation.
• Perform other duties as needed or assigned.

When will I work?

Applicants should be available to work approximately 15 hours per week (maximum of 20 hours per week) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per week during the summer.

Where is this opportunity located?

Position primarily located in Brookings, South Dakota, with limited availability to work from a U.S. based home office or Rapid City, SD Daktronics campus.

What are the pay and perks?

The typical hiring range for this position is $24.00 to $26.00 per hour based on the location of the candidate. The actual offer will consider a wide range of factors, including relevant education, experiences, location, and applicable local legislation.

Students with GPA of 3.5 and above may be eligible for a $500 Academic Excellence Reward for each spring and fall semester completed while employed. Additional conditions may apply.

Qualifications

To be considered for Software Design Student, we require the following:

Academic Requirements

• The preferred applicant will be a student registered in at least 12 credits.
• Applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor’s degree program in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related degree.
• The preferred applicant will be in their sophomore or junior year of school.
• Only strong academic performers will be considered and must maintain an acceptable GPA, with preference to 3.0 GPA or greater.
• Unofficial transcripts or web transcripts must be submitted with application.

Other Requirements

• Good oral and written communication skills, good organizational skills, self-motivation.
• Good problem solving and critical thinking skills.
• Regularly and reliably work scheduled hours.
• Fluent in English, both written and verbal.
• Applicants must be 18 years of age or older
• Daktronics does not sponsor, renew, or extend immigration visas for this position.

Desired Traits

• Object oriented programming knowledge is required. Knowledge of C++, C#, and/or Java preferred, but other object-oriented languages are acceptable.
• Knowledge of the Microsoft.Net Framework and Visual Studio.
• Knowledge of GIT or other source control software.
• Good oral and written communication skills, ability to communicate complex technical concepts.
• Shown ability to work collaboratively on projects or with a partner/team.
