Job summary

Space Dynamics Laboratory is seeking an Information Systems Project Manager to serve as the Software Asset Manager (SAM), coordinating software approvals, licensing, and lifecycle across SDL’s corporate environments. The SAM will ensure compliance, governance, and optimized portfolio management while collaborating with engineers, security, procurement, finance, legal and other stakeholders.

• Strong understanding of software asset management principles including licensing, lifecycle, compliance and retirement.
• U.S. citizen with ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance; CompTIA Security+ certification required or to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
• Ability to travel as needed (not a routine expectation).

Responsibilities

• Manages enterprise Software Asset Management processes across Corporate environments.
• Maintains visibility of the software portfolio including ownership, licensing, cost, and lifecycle status.
• Coordinates software requirements and approvals with technical, cybersecurity, licensing, procurement, and legal teams.
• Ensures evaluations consider cybersecurity, licensing, infrastructure, interoperability, and total lifecycle cost.
• Manages software lifecycle from requirement to retirement, identifying risks and dependencies.
• Maintains licensing, entitlement, subscriptions, maintenance, and renewal information for compliance and audits.
• Monitors utilization, audits, true-ups, renewals, and reconciliations to identify risks and opportunities.
• Coordinates vendor and contract activities including renewals and licensing changes.
• Develops renewal and lifecycle forecasts to support budgeting and technology planning.
• Promotes governance and standardization, improving supportability and reducing costs.
• Develops dashboards and reports on portfolio status, costs, risks, and recommendations for leadership.

Space Dynamics Laboratory is seeking an Information Systems Project Manager to serve as the Software Asset Manager (SAM) supporting our Information Systems team. The SAM is responsible for the enterprise management and coordination of SDL’s software portfolio across the Corporate Network environments. The selected candidate will be accountable for software approvals, licensing, lifecycle management, supportability, portfolio visibility, and continuous improvement. The SAM works directly with engineers, system administrators, security, programs, Procurement, Finance, Legal, and other stakeholders to ensure software is evaluated, approved, acquired, licensed, supported, sustained, and retired in a compliant, supportable, and operationally sound manner. The SAM is expected to actively drive software asset management processes, challenge gaps, ensure rigor in documentation and governance, and hold stakeholders accountable to agreed outcomes and lifecycle requirements.

This is an on-site, non-remote position for our North Logan, UT location.

Key Responsibilities

• Manages SDL’s enterprise Software Asset Management processes across Corporate and NEXCIS environments
• Maintains enterprise visibility of SDL’s software portfolio, including ownership, approval status, licensing, utilization, cost, support, renewals, and lifecycle status
• Serves as the central Information Systems focal point for software requirements and approvals, coordinating appropriate technical, cybersecurity, architecture, licensing, procurement, financial, legal, and operational reviews
• Ensures software evaluations consider existing enterprise capabilities, cybersecurity, licensing, infrastructure requirements, interoperability, supportability, total lifecycle cost, and long-term sustainability
• Manages software throughout its lifecycle from requirement and approval through acquisition, sustainment, renewal, modernization, and retirement, identifying lifecycle risks, technical debt, dependencies, and required actions
• Maintains accurate software licensing, entitlement, subscription, maintenance, and renewal information and ensures licensing compliance and audit readiness
• Monitors software utilization and coordinates audits, true-ups, renewals, and reconciliations to identify compliance risks and optimization opportunities
• Coordinates software vendor and contract activities, including renewals, maintenance agreements, licensing changes, vendor performance, and contract support
• Develops annual and multiyear software renewal and lifecycle forecasts to support budgeting, resource planning, contract negotiations, and technology planning
• Ensures software ownership, operational support responsibilities, and escalation paths are clearly established and incorporated into software governance and lifecycle processes
• Promotes software standardization and identifies opportunities to leverage existing capabilities, consolidate products and agreements, reduce costs, and improve supportability
• Develops dashboards, metrics, reports and communicate software portfolio status, costs, risks, lifecycle concerns, and recommendations to Information Systems leadership and stakeholders
• Continuously matures SDL’s Software Asset Management capability through process improvement, automation, governance, and industry best practices

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in IT roles, including experience with software asset management, IT asset management, enterprise software management, vendor management, or related responsibilities
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or an additional 5 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree
• Demonstrated ability to work directly with engineers, administrators, cybersecurity professionals, and other technical teams in complex IT environments
• Working knowledge of enterprise software, infrastructure, systems administration, cybersecurity, cloud, and related IT environments
• Strong understanding of software asset management principles, including software approvals, licensing, utilization, support, lifecycle management, compliance, and retirement
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate complex software requirements and activities across technical and non-technical organizations and drive them to successful outcomes
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate software utilization, licensing requirements, costs, supportability, lifecycle risks, and business value
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; with the ability to drive clarity and accountability across technical and non-technical audiences
• Ability to manage multiple concurrent priorities, requirements, approvals, renewals, and lifecycle activities without losing rigor or quality
• Must be a U.S. citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance
• Valid CompTIA Security+ certification (or equivalent) is required or must be obtained within 30 days of hire
• Must be able to travel as needed (not a routine expectation)

Preferred Qualifications

• 15+ years of experience in IT roles
• 5+ years of experience in Software Asset Management, IT Asset Management, software portfolio management, vendor management, or related responsibilities
• Experience managing software in regulated or compliance-driven environments (e.g., NIST 800-171, CMMC, RMF)
• Experience with enterprise software licensing, vendor relationships, renewals, software contracts, and compliance activities
• Experience developing or managing enterprise software approval, governance, lifecycle, or portfolio-management processes
• Experience with software lifecycle planning, utilization analysis, cost optimization, enterprise software standardization, and technical debt management
• Active DoW security clearance (any level; higher levels are beneficial)
• Proficiency with Software Asset Management, IT Service Management, project/portfolio management, and reporting platforms

Salary Range

• $104,000 - $142,000
  • Salary commensurate on education and relevant experience
