Job summary

The Lundquist Institute for Biomedical Innovation at Harbor‑UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, CA is seeking a Social Work professional to deliver longitudinal social risk/resource coordination. Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work from a CSWE-accredited program with supervised clinical fieldwork and ACSW registration or intent to obtain it.
  • Option II requires a MSW with one year of medical or related services experience and ACSW registration or intent to obtain it.
  • Physical: Light exertion; valid California Class C driver license or alternative transportation.

Overview

The Lundquist Institute for Biomedical Innovation at Harbor‑UCLA Medical Center is a non‑profit biomedical research organization located in Torrance, California. The Institute conducts research on a wide range of health conditions and supports projects that involve multidisciplinary collaboration.

Responsibilities
  • Deliver longitudinal social risk/need resource coordination services, including Medical‑Financial Partnership clinical, treatment, and support activities, in prenatal, family medicine, and/or pediatric clinic settings.
  • Support connection to psychosocial, mental health, and economic stability supports from clinical and community providers.
  • Support and supervise Medical‑Financial Partnership team members, including MSW trainees.
  • Collaborate and coordinate with health‑care team members and community service providers to respond to adverse childhood experience exposures.
  • Provide direct family resilience coaching services in clinical settings.
  • Conduct interviews, assessments, and evaluations to identify social, emotional, and economic barriers, needs, and strengths.
  • Identify, refer, coordinate, and monitor community resources and agencies in accordance with patient treatment plans.
  • Document assessments, progress, and treatment plans in compliance with utilization review standards.
  • Develop and implement social work treatment plans in consultation with the Medical‑Financial Partnership team.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary health team conferences to formulate and assess overall patient/family care plans.
  • Participate in orientation sessions and in‑service training for other disciplines to increase awareness of psychosocial risks.
  • Attend continuing education programs, seminars, and workshops to support professional development in social work practice.
  • Facilitate daily team huddles and manage the Medical‑Financial Partnership calendar.
  • Supervise staff performance, provide feedback, and ensure fidelity of services delivered.
  • Implement clinical workflows for family strengths and needs identification in collaboration with providers across all clinical settings.
  • Maintain knowledge of evidence‑based practices, trauma‑informed care, and local resource landscape.
Desirable Qualifications
  • At least 2 years post‑degree experience in a multidisciplinary medical setting assessing psychosocial needs of patients and families.
  • At least 2 years post‑degree experience evaluating infant, family, and early childhood mental health and developing interventions/care plans.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Fluency in Spanish.
  • Previous experience supervising or managing individuals or teams, ideally MSWs or MSW interns/students.
Minimum Requirements

Option I: A Master’s Degree in Social Work from a CSE‑accredited school with supervised clinical social work fieldwork experience and a valid Associate Clinical Social Worker (ACSW) registration or the intention to obtain it.

Option II: A Master’s Degree in Social Work from a CSE‑accredited school, one year of experience in medical or related services involving adjustment problems, and a valid ACSW registration or the intention to obtain it.

Physical: Light physical effort, occasional lifting up to 10 pounds.

Driver: Valid California Class C driver license or alternative transportation method when needed.
