Job summary

Michigan Medicine is seeking a 0.5 FTE Social Work (MSW) FLOAT to cover outpatient specialty clinics and continuity care during vacancies and leaves. The role involves high-autonomy psychosocial interventions and close collaboration with medical teams across pediatric settings.

The ideal candidate holds a CSWE-accredited MSW and an active Michigan LMSW/LLMSW license, with experience in medical and mental health social work. Primary Source Verification is required.

Qualifications

  • Current license to practice social work in Michigan (LMSW or LLMSW).

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate psychosocial needs and provide billable social work interventions with autonomy.
  • Advocate for patients navigating health care systems.
  • Counsel patients and families on coping with chronic health issues in children.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams on care plans for patients.
  • Coordinate with Child Protection teams on neglect or abuse issues.
  • Engage with community agencies, including schools, for chronically ill children.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and committees supporting patient care.

Job Summary

0.5 FTE (20 hrs) Social Work (MSW) FLOAT position, job share partner with another 0.5 FTE Float, responsible for social work coverage spanning outpatient specialty clinics and continuity clinical coverage (inpt/outpt) during vacancies, leaves of absence, Social Worker of the Day coverage, and coverage of social work referrals from unallocated pediatric/ob clinics, additional coverage as determined by Social Work manager.

Responsibilities*

You will be responsible for:

  • Evaluation of psychosocial needs and provision of billable social work interventions with a high degree of autonomy
  • Patient Advocacy related to navigating health care systems
  • Counseling to patients and families to address issues of coping and management of children with chronic health issues
  • Work closely with inter-disciplinary teams to collaborate on plan of care for patient
  • Collaboration with medical teams and Child Protection team to assess issues of neglect or abuse
  • Working closely with community agencies including with school systems to advocate for the special needs of chronically ill children.
  • Participation in inter-disciplinary team meetings, Social Work meetings and committee work that support the patient care mission.
Required Qualifications*
  • A master's degree in social work from a school accredited by the Council of Social Work Education.
  • Some experience of a professional social work
  • A current license to practice social work in the State of Michigan (LMSW or LLMSW).
  • This classification requires Primary Source Verification.
Desired Qualifications*
  • Due to the nature of the variety of medical diagnoses associated with this population, proficiency in adjustment, loss, and bereavement issues is desirable
  • Previous experience with medical and mental health social work.
  • Skilled in developing rapport and effectively communicating with a diverse patient population.
  • Efficient, accurate assessment of patient needs and effective care planning
  • Effective organizational skills, flexibility, self-motivation, the ability to effectively prioritize multiple competing tasks in a dynamic medical clinic.
  • Independent, sound decision-making is necessary for success in this position.
  • Effective collaboration with a large multi-disciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in keeping accurate and timely clinical records by computer.
  • Two years experience with families and children around issues of chronic illness, adjustment to illness and disability, learning/school issues, locating community resources

This position will primarily work out of C.S. Mott Hospital and Von Voightlander Women's Hospital, with additional coverage possible across Michigan Medicine pediatric specialty clinics.

Underfill Statement

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.Advancement through the career ladder at the Expert or Clinical Scholar Level is required for placement in the MSW Senior Classification

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
