Job summary

Avera Health in Marshall, MN is seeking an Outpatient Therapist to coordinate, plan, implement and facilitate counseling services on an outpatient basis. The role includes individual, group, and family therapy, crisis services/evaluation, tele-therapy, and education programs, with occasional travel.

Responsibilities cover assessment, treatment planning, documentation, and coordination with families and referral sources, in a compassionate multidisciplinary setting.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant field.
  • Active LPC-MH license in the state of practice.
  • Active CSW-PIP license in the state of practice.
  • Active LMFT license in the state of practice.

  • Coordinates a clinical treatment program for the diagnosis, treatment or referral of clients/patients presenting moderate to severe social adjustment problems.
  • Adheres to policies which ensure client confidentiality and coordinates care with hospital departments.
  • Conducts individual, family, or group therapy sessions per professional standards.
  • Assesses progress and coordinates care with referring physicians or agencies.
  • Documents therapy in hospital medical records per policy.
  • Responds as crisis counselor in emergencies per policy.
  • Refer clients to outside agencies when appropriate.
  • Communicates with family members to support treatment and progress.
  • Coordinate client/patient billing and adapt treatment to insurance provisions.

A Brief Overview

Assists in coordinating, planning, implementing and facilitating programs and counseling services on an outpatient basis. The Outpatient Therapist's responsibilities may include several of the following areas: individual, group and family counseling, crisis services/evaluation, tele-therapy services, and current and future groups/programs. All of these areas may involve providing assessments, facilitating treatment and crisis intervention of clientele affected by mental health or dual diagnoses issues. Providing community/education services will be a part of this position and some travel is occasionally required.

What you will do
  • Coordinates a clinical treatment program for the diagnosis, treatment or referral of clients/patients presenting moderate to severe social adjustment problems.
  • Adheres to policies which assure the confidentiality of client communications. Provides for a multi-disciplinary, holistic approach to the treatment of clients, coordinating same with appropriate hospital departments.
  • Conducts individual, family, or group therapy sessions in accordance with accepted principles of the National Association of Social Workers.
  • Assesses progress of clients/patients and modify or extend treatment program accordingly. Coordinates care of clients/patients with referring physician or agency.
  • Documents therapy in accordance with hospital policies and procedures on medical records.
  • Intervenes as a crisis counselor in situations requiring immediate psychological treatment such as substance abuse, suicide attempts, psychotic episodes and other instances as outlined in hospital policy.
  • Refers client or patient to outside agencies where appropriate.
  • Communicates with family members/significant others in order to further the effectiveness of client/patient treatment and progress.
  • Coordinates client/patient billing and modify treatment program in accordance with insurance coverage, plan provisions, and individual ability to pay.
  • Provides educational programs on a variety of psychological topics to hospital/community groups as requested.

Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:
  • Master's
  • Licensed Professional Counselor - Mental Health (LPC-MH) - Licensing Board An active license in the state of practice Upon Hire or
  • Clinical Social Worker - Practitioner in Private Practice (CSW-PIP) - Licensing Board An active license in the state of practice Upon Hire or
  • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) - Licensing Board An active license in the state of practice Upon Hire
Preferred Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:
  • Addiction Counselor Trainee (ACT) - Licensing Board An active license in the state of practice and
  • Certified Addiction Counselor (CAC) - Licensing Board An active license in the state of practice or
  • Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) - Board of Addiction and Prevention Professionals An active license in the state of practice
  • 4-6 years Related experience and/or training
  • Clinical experience facilitating group therapy sessions and providing individuals counseling services
  • Experience working with clients having dual diagnoses issues (addictive disorders in conjunction with mental health conditions)
  • Clinical experience with couples and/or family therapy
