Job summary

The Illinois Association of School Administrators is seeking a School Social Worker to support student development across social, emotional, and behavioral areas within district schools.

The role includes evaluating progress, coordinating IEP-related services, counseling, and collaborating with families, teachers, and community resources to meet student needs and ensure safe, supportive learning environments.

Qualifications

  • Master’s in Social Work from an accredited university or college.
  • Willingness and ability to travel throughout county.
  • Willingness and ability to be trained in techniques for physically restraining students, if necessary.
  • Type 73 School Service Personnel: School Social Work

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates and assesses student progress against instructional objectives.
  • Coordinatess individual and group meetings for students.
  • Provides crisis intervention as needed.
  • Maintains confidentiality of student information.
  • Reports questions/concerns to immediate supervisor.
  • Develops and implements developmentally appropriate social work activities for children with exceptional needs as specified on IEPs.

  • Evaluatesandassessesstudentprogressagainstinstructionalobjectives
  • Possesses working knowledge of state and federal laws related to Social Work (Section 504)
  • Coordinates individual and group meetings for students
  • Providesanatmosphereandenvironmentconducivetotheintellectual,physical,socialandemotionaldevelopmentofeachstudenttoensuresuccess
  • Manages behavioral Tier system (1, 2, and 3)
  • Assistsindistrictinitiatives(Ex.Bullying,SexualHarassment,etc.)
  • Makes home visits and provides resources for families
  • Servesasliaisonbetweencommunityorganizationandtheschooltomeettheneedsofstudents
  • Teachessocialskillslessonswithintheregulareducationclassroom
  • Providesanorientation(expectations)fornewstudentswhoenrollafterthestartoftheschoolyear
  • Communicatesandinteractswithstudents,parents,staffandcommunity
  • Administersformalandinformaldiagnosticassessmentintheareaofsocial/emotionallearning
  • Workscooperativelywiththeadministrationandstafftoschedulemeetings
  • PossessesknowledgeofSocialWorkresearch,trends,andbestpractices
  • Monitorthepacingofinstructionandbudgetclasstimeefficientlybyprovidingcleardirections,outliningexpectations,andeffectivelybringingtoclosureinstructionalexperiences
  • Utilizestechnologyforcommunication,assessment,andinformationmanagement
  • Demonstratesorganizational andproblem-solvingskills
  • Maintainsregularattendanceandarrivepromptlyaccordingtoschedule

  • Assistswithfunctionalbehavioralanalysesandbehavioralconsultations
  • Presentsassessmentfindingsinanunderstandablemanner
  • Makesclear,practicalrecommendationsforbehavioralinterventions
  • Develops and implements prevention plans
  • Completesapplicablepaperwork,includingIEPs,evaluationreports,progressreports,andotherrequiredforms
  • DevelopsmeasurableIEPgoalsandobjectivesalignedwiththeIllinoisSocialandEmotionalLearningStandards
  • Workswithparentgroupstofacilitatetheirsupportintheirchildren’sschooladjustment
  • Linksschoolandcommunityservicesbyinitiatingreferralsandmaintainingfollow-upservices
  • Helpsthedistrictreceiveadequatesupportfromsocialandmentalhealthagencies
  • Conducts inservice training programs
  • Providesconsultationonissues,suchasfamilyfunctioning,normalchilddevelopment,alternativeprogramsfordrop-outs,delinquents,truants,etc.
  • Implementsspecializedtechniques,programs,andbehaviormanagementsysteminaccordancewithrequirementsofassignedschools
  • ThefollowingisthePriorityListestablishedforsocialworkersbytheIllinoisStateBoardofEducationandissupportedbytheSchoolSocialWorkersasRCS.
