Job summary

Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital seeks a Social Worker - IRP to provide psychosocial assessments, counseling, crisis intervention and discharge planning for inpatients and families. The role covers weekend and holiday shifts as part of an intermittent schedule, aligning with the unit's needs and patient care goals.

The ideal candidate holds an MSW and Ohio licensure (LSW/LISW) or equivalent experience, with expertise in coordinating financial counseling, education and resource linkage

• Strong psychosocial assessment, counseling and crisis intervention skills.

Responsibilities

• Link patients and families with community resources and agencies.
• Support medically related social and emotional needs affecting care and recovery.
• Collaborate with hospital teams to ensure safe transitions between care settings.

Job Title: Social Worker - IRP

Department: James | Social Work

Scope of Position: Provision of social work services to inpatients, outpatients, and their families in The Ohio State University James Cancer Hospital. IRP Social Workers cover weekends and holidays.

Position Summary: Social work services include psychosocial assessments, mental health counseling, crisis intervention, financial counseling, discharge planning, health education and the provision of material resources and linkage with community agencies. Social work services are provided to patients/families to meet their medically related social and emotional needs as they impact on their medical condition, treatment, recovery, and safe transition from one care environment to another.

Core competencies include: Psychosocial assessment, counseling and crisis intervention skills, Knowledge of the PASAAR process for extended care facility placement and the assessment and counseling processes involved, knowledge of home healthcare set-up process and skills assessing neglect/abuse, including substance abuse and domestic violence.

Minimum Qualifications for Hire: Master of Social Work from an accredited Graduate School of Social Work; State of Ohio Social Work licensure (LSW or LISW) or equivalent education/experience.
