As an accelerated alternative high school program, One Bright Ray’s population consists of non-traditional students that may need additional support. The Emotional Support Team (EST) assistsstudents in maintaining their needs to ensure the completion of their high school education. The goal of the Emotional Support Team is to enhance students’ coping skills, ability to manage crises, self-advocate, and provide staff/faculty support to maintain cultural competency.

The School Social Worker supports students and families in need of social service resources. The Social Worker shall understand the psychologicaldevelopment of children and the influences of family, community, and cultural differences as they interact with the educational process. The School Social Worker will be part of the Emotional Support Team (EST) and work collaboratively with site administration and the Director of Emotional Support.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Social Work, from a CSWE accredited program

Minimum of 2-5 years of experience

Must have a valid driver's license.

Primary Responsibilities

• Responsible for assisting the school leadership in carrying out the mission and vision of One Bright Ray Community High School.
• Understand and practice by federal, state, and local laws, statutes, and/or policies that relate to students and families; such as child protection/child abuse, special education, attendance, education rights, and privacy
• Uphold Restorative Practice motto
• Ability to work with specialized groups, such as student parents, unaccompanied youth, adjudicated youth, youth with special education requirements, etc.
• Complete needs assessment; connect students and families to the desired service
• Provide short/long-term case management services to individual students
• Collect and maintain available community resources; complete referrals as needed
• Connect students with desirable community services (i.e., homelessness, healthcare, childcare, SNAP/cash assistance, Social Security benefits, etc.)
• Serve as liaison and coordinate service with community agencies
• Advocate for student educational needs
• Promote retention, engagement, and re-engagement of students
• Conduct home visits and student meetings for truant students: complete required documentation
• Assist and provide support with student conflict resolution meetings, parent meetings, and student behavioral meetings
• Familiar working with individuals diagnosed or experiencing a mental health crisis
• Provide crisis intervention services and individual counseling, as needed
• Provide culturally competent training to staff/faculty
• Collect and maintain Social Service Data on the current student population
• Complete and maintain student files
• Communicate student concerns regularly with site administration and the Director of Emotional Support
• Performs other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Principal or Director of Emotional Support
