QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid certification issued by the Connecticut State Department of Education for the position.
- Experience in the field as the Board and Administration may find appropriate and acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Principal/Director of Special Education and Pupil Services
JOB GOAL: To administer and maintain a program of Social Services for the Bethel Schools.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Serves as a liaison between the school and the home in cases referred by the guidance department and school administration.
- Assists the Director of Special Education in the placement of all children in special education including those placed outside the school district.
- Coordinates all cases referred to outside agencies except those placed in special education.
- Assists the guidance and health departments in counseling children and parents.
- Serves a resource to guidance personnel in developing alternative programming for problem children.
- Assists school staff in investigating and helping to solve attendance problems.
- Attends PPT meetings on youngsters who have been assigned to the Social Worker and others who may be in need of Social Work Services.
- Interprets the School Social Work Services program to parents, staff and community.
- Assists the Superintendent of Schools in the development of policies related to Social Work services.
- Serves as a resource person in interpreting community social services to parents, staff, and community.
- Coordinates the referral of students not enrolled in the Bethel Public Schools (i.e., preschool, foster students, etc.).
- Carries out other duties as assigned by the Principal/Director of Special Education.
TERMOF EMPLOYMENT: Ten-month year in accordance with Section 10-151 of the Connecticut General Statutes.
