Responsibilities

This is a full‑performance social services role that involves counseling, referral, placement, and/or adoptive functions related to services for children, youth, adults, the aging, the homeless, and incarcerated individuals. Key duties include performing case management activities, assessing client and family needs, developing service or treatment plans, creating group activities, providing ongoing counseling and referral services, and determining appropriate placement actions. The role requires independent judgment and a deep understanding of professional standards and departmental policies. Work is conducted under the general supervision of a technical superior and involves significant interaction with individuals, families, professional agencies, and the general public.

Qualifications
  • Education: Completion of a bachelor’s degree in social work, social services, sociology, psychology, criminal justice, behavioral health, public health, human services, human or child development, education, or a closely related field at an accredited college or university.
  • Experience: Three years of case management experience performed after the bachelor’s degree, involving a variety of social services related to children and youth, adults and the aging, and/or correctional rehabilitation.
  • Alternative Path: An equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable to the Office of Human Resources, with a bachelor’s degree as a minimum.
  • Additional Requirement for Bilingual Specialty: Training and/or experience to understand and speak fluently in English and the designated non‑English language.
  • Master’s Degree Alternative: A master’s degree in Social Work may substitute for two years of experience.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to physically perform job duties and work under required environmental conditions. (Specific requirements for Juvenile Justice Services Center positions may apply.)
  • Licenses: For certain positions, possession of a valid Pennsylvania motor vehicle operator’s license or development of trainer (DOT) certification may be required.
