Job summary

The Boys & Girls Clubs of America Sands Branch in Glendale, AZ is seeking a Social Recreation Specialist to provide safe, engaging youth programs 10–25 hours per week. Under the Program Director, you will develop and facilitate activities, supervise members, ensure safety, and coordinate volunteers and events.

Evening and weekend flexibility may be required; a clean driving record and access to a vehicle are a plus for occasional transportation of members. Paid training will be provided.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Passion for working with youth.
• Ability to multitask and adapt to Club’s changing needs.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal and cooperative working skills.
• Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Suite and be comfortable adapting to new technology.
• If 21 or older, maintains a valid driver’s license and meets eligibility requirements to drive Club vehicles.
• Safety oriented mindset.

• Develops, organizes, and facilitates programs and activities utilizing a formal curriculum.
• Directly runs programming and high-yield activities in assigned area.
• Facilitate diverse social and recreational programs that foster teamwork, communication, inclusivity and positive social skills.
• Plan and coordinate special events and tournaments to showcase youth’s achievements.
• Administers outcome measurement tools.
• Delivers programs with an enthusiastic, high-energy, positive attitude.

Job Summary

The Youth Development Specialist- Social Recreation is responsible for the safety and supervision of Club members. Under the direction of the Program Director, the Youth Development Specialist delivers quality programs and high-yield social recreation specific activities to Club members. Utilizes the organization’s mission, vision, and values to set members up for success and provide an outcome-driven Club experience. Responsibilities include but are not limited to program development and facilitation, program area safety and cleanliness, and providing guidance to volunteers. If 21 or older, responsibilities may include transporting members.

• Uses positive guidance and discipline techniques to redirect member behavior issues.
• Utilizes active supervision techniques when working with Club members.

Knowledge, Ability and Skills - Required

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school graduate or G.E.D. equivalent.
