Job description

Description

Build SDC's Voice on Social Media

Steven Douglas Corp. (SDC) designs, engineers, and builds custom automation machines that solve complex manufacturing challenges.

We're looking for a Social Media Specialist to take full ownership of SDC's social media presence—from strategy and content creation through publishing, engagement, and performance analysis.

This is a hands‑on role. You won't simply manage a posting calendar or execute someone else's strategy. You'll help determine what we should be talking about, create the content, publish it, engage with our audience, and continuously improve our approach.

You'll manage both SDC's company accounts and the individual social accounts of key SDC leaders, helping position our company and our people as thought leaders in automation and manufacturing.

Our primary platforms include LinkedIn, Instagram, and YouTube, with an active but secondary presence on Facebook.

What You'll Own
Social Media Strategy & Planning
  • Develop and manage SDC's social media strategy and content calendar using Canva and Sprout Social.
  • Build platform-specific strategies for LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and Reddit.
  • Identify topics, trends, conversations, and opportunities relevant to our target audiences.
  • Develop distinct social strategies for SDC and key individual thought‑leader accounts.
  • Maintain a consistent publishing schedule and keep the content pipeline moving.
Social Content Creation

Own social media content from idea through publication, including:

  • Writing posts, captions, hooks, and social copy
  • Creating branded graphics, carousels, and visual content
  • Taking and editing photos
  • Capturing video on our shop floor, at events, and with our team
  • Creating and editing Reels, Stories, and YouTube Shorts
  • Editing longer‑form social video
  • Adding captions, graphics, music, and other video elements
  • Repurposing content across platforms

You'll work directly with SDC team members to find interesting stories and turn technical topics into engaging social content.

Thought Leadership

Work directly with key members of SDC's leadership team to build their individual social media presence.

You'll help identify ideas, interview subject‑matter experts, write posts in their individual voices, create supporting visuals and videos, and build consistent thought‑leadership strategies.

The goal is to establish both SDC and the people behind SDC as trusted voices in custom automation, engineering, manufacturing, and business.

Community & Audience Growth
  • Monitor and respond to comments, messages, mentions, and relevant conversations.
  • Identify opportunities for SDC and our leaders to participate in industry discussions.
  • Build relationships with manufacturers, engineers, automation professionals, customers, prospective employees, and industry partners.
  • Participate authentically in relevant Reddit and social communities without turning every interaction into a sales pitch.
Analytics & Continuous Improvement

Track performance and use the data to improve our strategy, including:

  • Audience and follower growth
  • Reach and engagement
  • Video views and watch time
  • Top‑performing topics and formats
  • Website traffic and inquiries generated through social
  • Engagement from potential customers and other high‑value audiences
  • Ongoing research into evolving best practices and discoverability standards across platforms and AI/search answer engines (SEO, AEO, AIO, GEO, and similar) — applied consistently to keep our content competitive

We're interested in growing our audience, but quality matters more than vanity metrics. Reaching the right manufacturing decision‑makers is more valuable than generating thousands of irrelevant views.

Requirements
What We're Looking For
  • Experience managing professional social media accounts.
  • Working knowledge of Canva and Sprout Social or similar design, management and scheduling tools.
  • Strong understanding of LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and Reddit.
  • Excellent writing and storytelling skills.
  • Strong short‑form video creation and editing capabilities.
  • Experience with graphic design and social media visuals.
  • Comfortable taking photos and capturing video independently.
  • Ability to adapt content and messaging for different platforms and individual voices.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple accounts and content schedules.
  • Understanding of social media analytics and audience growth.
  • Confidence working directly with company leadership and technical subject‑matter experts.
  • Ability to take technical information and turn it into clear, interesting content.
  • Experience in manufacturing, industrial automation, engineering, B2B marketing, or another technical industry is a plus, but not required.
What Makes Someone Successful at SDC

Our team moves at a fast but rewarding pace. We're a privately owned company with the agility to make decisions quickly, without the layers of corporate red tape found in larger organizations.

We're looking for someone who:

  • Works as part of a team. Collaborates, communicates, and recognizes that the best results come from working together.
  • Takes ownership. Sees what needs to be done, follows through, and doesn't wait to be told every next step. We trust you to organize your own tasks, stay focused, and deliver high‑quality results. This level of autonomy is a big part of what makes SDC different, and it takes real self‑discipline to thrive in it.
  • Moves with urgency. Can prioritize, make decisions, and keep work moving in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Communicates directly and respectfully. Shares ideas, asks questions, accepts feedback, and keeps others informed.
  • Looks for a better way. Brings new ideas, experiments with new approaches, and continuously looks for ways to improve.
  • Focuses on results. Understands the purpose behind the work and takes pride in delivering high‑quality results.
  • Is comfortable being hands‑on. At SDC, good ideas don't need to pass through layers of approval. We expect people to help turn ideas into action.
What We Offer:

At SDC, we believe in taking care of our team both professionally and personally. We provide a comprehensive benefits package, including:

  • Competitive pay that reflects your expertise and contributions.
  • Employer‑paid medical, dental, vision, and life insurance options
  • Paid vacation, sick leave and 10 company‑paid holidays to support work‑life balance.
  • A 4% employer match to a 401(k) plan each pay period.
  • Generous parental leave, and a company sponsored Employee Assistance Program.

You’ll have the opportunity to work on a variety of exciting and challenging projects across industries, keeping your work engaging and impactful. Our company culture is built on integrity, respect, continuous learning, innovation, and teamwork, creating an environment where employees can thrive both personally and professionally. www.sdcautomation.com
