Job summary

Woodcraft Rangers seeks a part-time Soccer Club Leader for after-school programs in Los Angeles, CA. You will create a safe, inclusive environment, teach soccer foundations, and lead age-appropriate activities aligned with a whole-child approach.

You will track attendance, build relationships, and help plan events, with on-site work and occasional field trips. The role requires at least a high school diploma, sports coaching experience, and FBI Livescan, TB, and CPR certifications.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• 1 year of experience working with high school children in school or recreational settings.
• Experience coaching or participating in sports (volleyball, soccer, basketball, flag football).
• Experience supporting students with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
• Understanding of inclusive practices and various disabilities.
• Valid FBI & DOJ Livescan clearance.
• Current TB Test clearance.
• First Aid & CPR certification (can be provided by Woodcraft Rangers).
• CPI Certification (can be provided by Woodcraft Rangers).
• Must pass an assessment evaluating math, reading comprehension, and spelling.

Responsibilities

• Create a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all program participants, staff, and families—physically and emotionally.
• Teach foundational soccer skills and adapt instruction to varying skill levels.
• Design and lead age-appropriate activities aligned with a whole-child approach.
• Incorporate basic sports conditioning and fitness fundamentals where appropriate.
• Track daily attendance and participant engagement.
• Build positive relationships with participants, colleagues, and stakeholders.
• Plan culminating events with supervisor; ensure supplies are stocked and on budget.
• Stay current on safety protocols, trainings, and certifications; follow emergency procedures.
• Attend off-site field trips and staff development trainings (~15 hours across weekends).
• Report to the Site Coordinator and Program Manager on assigned duties.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

What We Do:

Woodcraft Rangers provides TK-12 expanded learning programs, including before and after school, specialty enrichment, and summer learning. In the past few years, Woodcraft has expanded its menu of services beyond traditional afterschool programs and summer camps to include early learning, environmental and social justice, college access, and inclusion services for youth with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Additionally, we offer Lifecraft, a college and career advancement program to support the development of approximately 1,500 staff. Today, Woodcraft Rangers serves more than 30,000 youth ages 4 to 18 each year across 160 plus Title I schools in Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties, and continues to expand its reach.

Job Summary:

Club Leaders are responsible for ensuring a fun and positive learning environment for club participants and will support clubs of approximately 20 children. Club leaders have the opportunity to grow, connect, play and have the greatest impact on each of their club participants. Other members of the team include a Site Coordinator, who oversees the program and a Community Liaison who supports the site coordinator. All staff can choose between working in school sites, sleepaway camp, or both.

The Club Leader position is an on-site position, including attending training at the Woodcraft Rangers main office in Little Tokyo and school sites.

Role Overview:

• Create a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all program participants, staff, and families — both physically and emotionally.
• Teach foundational skills in Soccer,adapting instruction to varying skill levels and abilities.
• Design and lead fun, age-appropriate activities aligned with a whole-child approach (social-emotional learning, skill building, self-esteem, leadership), using WR's activity catalog as a resource.
• Incorporate basic sports conditioning and fitness fundamentals into activities where appropriate (a plus, not required).
• Track daily attendance and participant engagement, ensuring active involvement in program activities.
• Build positive relationships with participants, colleagues, and stakeholders.
• Partner with colleagues and your supervisor to plan culminating events that showcase participants' work and achievements.
• Request materials ahead of time so the Site Coordinator can keep supplies stocked and on budget.
• Stay current on safety protocols, trainings, and certifications, and follow all emergency procedures.
• Attend off-site field trips and staff development trainings as required (~15 hours across weekends/intersessional days in spring).
• Report to the Site Coordinator and Program Manager on assigned duties.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Ideal Candidate:

Ideally, we are looking for someone who is detail-oriented, energetic, ambitious, proactive, and positive, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Multi-tasking and attention to detail must be strengths this individual possesses. Individuals need to be comfortable to present and speak in front of staff and peers during in-person training.We're looking for a Sports Club Leader to teach foundational skills in soccer. Experience in sports conditioning is a strong plus.
