Job summary

The Soccer Instructor at Holland, City of (MI) introduces children ages 3 and 4 to basic soccer skills in a positive, active environment. You will plan and lead age-appropriate activities to develop coordination, confidence, teamwork, and enjoyment of physical activity, while staying patient, energetic, and dependable around parents and guardians.

You will teach basic soccer skills, engage children with games, supervise sessions, and communicate professionally with families and Parks staff.

Qualifications

  • Experience working with young children in recreational, educational, childcare, or athletic settings.
  • Basic knowledge of soccer skills and rules.
  • Ability to lead activities confidently and maintain attention of young children.
  • Strong communication, organization, and customer-service skills.
  • Dependable and able to work independently.
  • Ability to work the assigned evening or Saturday schedule.
  • Must complete all required employment screenings and department training.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and lead organized, age-appropriate soccer lessons for children ages 3 and 4.
  • Teach introductory skills, including dribbling, passing, shooting, movement, balance, and coordination.
  • Use games and activities that keep participants active, engaged, and having fun.
  • Create a welcoming environment that encourages participation, teamwork, and good sportsmanship.
  • Adjust activities based on participants’ abilities, attention spans, and developmental needs.
  • Clearly explain and demonstrate activities using simple, age-appropriate instructions.
  • Maintain active supervision of participants and provide appropriate behavior guidance.
  • Inspect the playing area and equipment before each class and address potential safety concerns.
  • Set up, organize, and properly store program equipment.
  • Take attendance and maintain accurate program records as assigned.
  • Communicate professionally with parents, guardians, participants, and Parks and Recreation staff.
  • Respond appropriately to injuries, incidents, weather concerns, and other emergencies.
  • Arrive prepared and on time for all assigned classes.
  • Follow all City and department policies, procedures, and safety expectations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Seasonal
PROGRAM AGES: 3–4 Years Old

SCHEDULE

Program Dates: September 14–October 14, 2026
Program Days: Saturdays, Mondays, and Wednesdays

Class Times:Mondays: 5 PM–7:00 PM

JOB SUMMARY

The Soccer Instructor introduces children ages 3 and 4 to the basic skills and concepts of soccer in a positive, active, and encouraging environment. This position plans and leads age-appropriate activities that help participants develop basic soccer skills, coordination, confidence, teamwork, and an enjoyment of physical activity.

The instructor must be patient, energetic, dependable, and comfortable working with young children and their parents or guardians.
