Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and conduct regular practice sessions.
• Develop and implement game strategies and tactics.
• Teach fundamental skills, techniques, and sports rules to student-athletes.
• Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, and trips.
• Monitor academic progress and balance athletics with academics.
• Promote discipline, responsibility, and good sportsmanship.
• Ensure compliance with athletic regulations.
• Manage team equipment and uniforms.
• Collaborate with the athletic director on scheduling, budget, and facility use.
• Maintain communication with parents and guardians.
• Provide mentorship on personal development and college opportunities.
• Enforce school policies and codes of conduct.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Prior coaching experience at the high school or competitive youth level.
• Valid Florida teaching certificate or valid Department of Education athletic coaching certificate.
• Valid FHSAA certification.
• Valid Adult and Child First Aid/CPR/AED certificate issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
• Valid Florida Driver’s License.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Head coaching experience in the assigned or a closely related sport at the high school level.
• Experience mentoring youth and fostering a positive team culture.
• Familiarity with academic eligibility requirements for student-athletes.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Knowledge of the sport’s rules, techniques, and safety practices.
• Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.
• Ability to collaborate with school staff, parents, and community partners.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and during school breaks as needed.
