Job summary

The School District of Lee County is seeking a dedicated Boys Soccer Head Coach at Ida S. Baker High in Cape Coral, FL. The role focuses on developing student-athletes both on the field and academically, coordinating practices, game plans, and team discipline.

Responsibilities include mentoring athletes, ensuring compliance with district and state athletic regulations, and maintaining strong parent-teacher communication. Evening and weekend work is required.

Qualifications

• Coaching experience at high school or competitive youth level is required.
• Florida teaching certificate or DOE athletic coaching certificate is required.
• FHSAA certification is required.
• First Aid/CPR/AED certificate from AHA or Red Cross is required.
• Any combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Responsibilities

• Plan, organize, and conduct regular practice sessions.
• Develop and implement game strategies and tactics.
• Teach fundamental skills, techniques, and sports rules to student-athletes.
• Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, and school-sponsored trips.
• Monitor academic progress and support students balancing athletics and academics.
• Promote discipline, responsibility, and good sportsmanship among players.
• Ensure compliance with school, district, and state athletic regulations.
• Manage and maintain team equipment and uniforms.
• Collaborate with the athletic director on scheduling, budget, and facility use.
• Maintain open communication with parents and guardians; provide mentorship and guidance to student-athletes on personal development and college opportunities.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Prior coaching experience at the high school or competitive youth level.
• Valid Florida teaching certificate or valid Department of Education athletic coaching certificate.
• Valid FHSAA certification.
• Valid Adult and Child First Aid/CPR/AED certificate issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
• Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
• Valid Florida Driver’s License.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Head coaching experience in the assigned or a closely related sport at the high school level.
• Experience mentoring youth and fostering a positive team culture.
• Familiarity with academic eligibility requirements for student-athletes.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Knowledge of the sport’s rules, techniques, and safety practices.
• Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills.
• Ability to collaborate with school staff, parents, and community partners.
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and during school breaks as needed.
