Job description

$160k-$200k base in line with experience + equity

Most SOC Managers spend their days buried in alerts and fighting for headcount. This one gets to lead a SOC where the tech takes on the grunt work, so the team can focus on the investigations and customer work that actually need a human.

The company

A venture-backed cybersecurity startup, growing quickly and building an AI-first approach to security operations. They’re working with large enterprise customers as well as fast-moving tech companies, and have the backing of top-tier investors and well-known names in the security world. The leadership team has built and scaled security products before, so this is a team that knows what good looks like.

The role

They’ve got a security service up and running with paying customers, and now they need someone to take ownership of it and grow it properly. You’ll lead the team day to day, but you won’t be sat behind a desk managing from a distance. You’ll be in the cases with them, especially while the team is still growing.

You’ll:
  • Run the day-to-day: who’s on, when, and making sure nothing important sits in the queue
  • Build out the processes and playbooks so the team works consistently, whoever’s on shift
  • Keep the quality of the team’s analysis high, and coach people up when it slips
  • Take the lead when something serious happens and keep customers calm and informed
  • Hire and grow the team as the customer base scales
  • Feed what you’re seeing back into the product so the same problems don’t keep coming up
Why it’s exciting
  • You’re helping shape what the next generation of managed security looks like, not inheriting a legacy SOC
  • Real influence on the product, so noise gets fixed at the source
  • Early enough to build the function and the team your way
  • Work alongside engineers and researchers from some of the biggest names in tech and security
  • Strong equity in a company with serious momentum
What they’re looking for
  • 7+ years in cybersecurity, with real experience leading a security operations team (SOC, MSSP or MDR)
  • You’ve built or scaled a security ops function before, not just worked in one
  • Strong incident response background across cloud, identity and endpoint
  • Deep understanding of attacker behaviour, enough to sense-check and improve your team’s work
  • Comfortable in front of customers, whether that’s an engineer or a CISO

Nice to have: SIEM/EDR/SOAR breadth, detection content (Sigma, KQL, SPL etc.), compliance frameworks, experience with AI-assisted investigation tooling.
