Ideal candidates have a decade of cybersecurity experience, strong leadership, and a track record of improving detection and response capabilities across SIEM, IDS/IPS, and endpoint protection.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in cybersecurity, incl. 4+ years leading SOC or security operations team.
• Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent).
• Active DOE Q Clearance or Top Secret Clearance.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor the SOC team with 24/7 operational readiness and daily security operations.
• Direct detection, analysis, investigation, and response to cybersecurity incidents for escalation of high-priority threats.
• Oversee and optimize security technologies including SIEM, IDS/IPS, endpoint protection, and threat monitoring.
• Analyze network traffic, logs, and threat intel to improve detection and incident response processes.
• Collaborate with IT, engineering, and leadership to communicate cyber risks and ensure security compliance.

Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a SOC Lead to support a company focused on cybersecurity operations, engineering, and compliance for the Department of Energy (DOE) and National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). This position is on‑site in Manassas, VA and Washington, DC. The SOC Lead will oversee Security Operations Center (SOC) activities, lead incident response efforts, and mentor a team of cybersecurity professionals while driving continuous improvements to enterprise security operations. Responsibilities for the SOC Lead include:

• Lead and mentor the SOC team while ensuring 24/7 operational readiness and efficient day‑to‑day security operations.
• Direct the detection, analysis, investigation, and response to cybersecurity incidents, serving as the escalation point for high‑priority threats.
• Oversee and optimize security technologies including SIEM, IDS/IPS, endpoint protection, and threat monitoring solutions.
• Analyze network traffic, system logs, and threat intelligence to identify risks, improve detection capabilities, and strengthen incident response processes.
• Collaborate with IT, engineering, and leadership teams to communicate cyber risks, protect critical assets, and ensure compliance with security best practices.

Required Qualifications for the SOC Lead include:

• 10+ years of cybersecurity experience, including 4+ years leading a Security Operations Center (SOC) or security operations team.
• Strong experience with SIEM platforms, incident response, network defense, threat detection, vulnerability management, and security monitoring tools.
• Proven leadership, analytical, and communication skills with the ability to mentor teams and present technical findings to executive leadership.
• Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Active DOE Q Clearance or Top Secret Clearance.

Compensation for the SOC Lead includes:

• Salary Range: $150,000 - $170,000, depending on experience
• Full Benefits Package: PTO, Paid Holidays, Medical, Dental, Vision, 401K, Tuition Reimbursement, Sick Leave as required by law.
