Objective Partners in Chicago seeks a senior SOC Cybersecurity Engineer to act as the first escalation point above Tier 1 analysts. You will work across IT security and OT environments, handling phishing alerts, incident response escalations, and vulnerability management while coordinating remediation with systems teams.
You will present security issues to leadership with clear, executive-ready communication and guidance.
This is a SOC (Security Operations Center) Cybersecurity Engineer. The role sits at the senior level and serves as the first escalation point above the Tier 1 analyst.
The engineer will work across two distinct security domains: IT security (covering endpoint protection, SaaS application security, and SIEM log management) and OT (operational technology) security, which encompasses the shop floor and development team environments. Day-to-day duties include responding to and validating email phishing alerts (distinguishing false from true positives), supporting incident response escalations, and driving vulnerability management by coordinating with systems teams to remediate OS-level vulnerabilities. The role also requires communicating directly with leadership and ownership, including the ability to present and explain security issues clearly in executive settings.
Minimum 4–5 years of hands‑on SOC engineering experience is required — not analyst experience.
The organization is standardized on Rapid 7 and Palo Alto for security tooling. Candidates must have meaningful SIEM and endpoint tool experience. The company is a Microsoft shop, so familiarity with Microsoft security tools is valued; the SC-200 certification is a nice-to-have but not required and can be taught.
Target range is $115,000–$125,000.
Standard hours are 8:00 AM–5:00 PM, with flexibility. The role is primarily on‑site (5 days), but hybrid arrangements are open to discussion as an exception for the right candidate. After‑hours on‑call incidents are rare — the company has a third‑party incident response partner for overnight coverage — but the engineer would be the first point of contact if escalated.
Benefits: medical, dental, vision and life insurance, a 401(k) plan and paid time off.
