Qualifications

  • One year of latent print experience or education.
  • Knowledge of crime reporting databases, photography, and latent fingerprint systems.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct field observations and collect evidence at crime scenes.
  • Perform latent prints comparison and process fingerprints across databases.
  • Compile daily, monthly, and annual reports on evidence and crime scene data.
  • Collaborate to identify victims and suspects and testify about evidence in court.
  • Transport evidence to court and attend autopsies for identification.
  • Perform forensic photography and document evidence logistics.
  • Work with law enforcement, attorneys, and state agencies on investigations.
  • Assist with local/state crime reporting and statistics and attend trainings.

Job description

This position will go in effective 10/1/2026

Reporting directly to Crime Scene Supervisor, responsible for performing field tasks associated with the collection, observation and documentation of crime scenes and evidence for the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO).

  • Conducts routine field observations of crime scenes and collects evidence from crime scenes to assist with investigations
  • Performs comprehensive latent prints comparison and processes fingerprints through multiple databases
  • Compiles and retains daily, monthly, and annual reports related to evidence, fingerprinting, and crime scene information for the WCSO
  • Collaborates and performs analysis to determine identity of victims and suspects related to crime scenes
  • Transports evidence to court and testifies in applicable situations pertaining to condition of evidence and crime scene observations
  • Attends routine autopsies for identification and reporting purposes
  • Documents and performs forensic photography at crime scenes and processes evidence for trace evidence, and create reports and logs to aid investigations
  • Collaborates with law enforcement, attorneys, and state agencies to aid with investigations
  • Assists with local and state crime reporting and statistics
  • Attends all meetings and successfully completes trainings, as required
  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Position involves frequent sitting, standing, walking, climbing, bending, heavy lifting, and operating equipment
  • Position involves safely operating a motor vehicle
Environmental Factors
  • Indoor and outdoor work in all environments, including inclement weather
  • Work is primarily indoors in an air-conditioned environment
  • Exposure to dust, chemicals, fumes, and high noise levels
  • Exposure to graphic material (photos, video, and audio) and persons accused or adjudicated of various crimes
  • Regular travel between work sites as required
Irregular Hours
  • Work outside of the normal office hours (Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.) may be required
  • Will be on an on-call rotation schedule subject to being called back after normal work hours
  • Requires flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and/or weekend hours
  • May be deemed essential personnel in the event of an emergency

Licenses and Certifications

Required within thirty (30) days of employment

  • Valid driver’s license
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • IAI (International Association for Identification) Crime Scene or Latent Print Certification
  • Certification and/or training in crime scene processing and photography, fingerprinting and identification, and FARO laser scanner operation
  • Four hundred (400) classroom hours related to crime scene and latent print work including evidence rooms procedures
