Job summary

Aspen Skiing Company is seeking a Snowcat Operator Basic to safely operate snowcats and create quality snow surfaces for skiing and riding, supporting day-to-day mountain operations and special events. This role reports to the Trails Director and requires reliability in a winter environment.

The position is part of the seasonal full-time workforce, with responsibilities including grooming, equipment maintenance, and adherence to safety policies in varying weather and terrain conditions.

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment on uneven terrain and at night preferred.
  • Valid, current, unrestricted driver's license required.

Responsibilities

  • Groom terrain for skiing and riding.
  • Maintain grooming standards and fix pattern discrepancies.
  • Operate snowcats safely including night shifts and adverse weather.
  • Perform general snowcat maintenance and report issues to mechanics.
  • Follow ASC and Colorado snowmobile testing requirements.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Job Description

The Snowcat Operator Basic is responsible for the safe operation of a snowcat to create quality snow surfaces for skiing and riding to support day-to-day mountain operations and special events. This position reports to the Trails Director.

Essential Job Functions
  • Groom terrain for skiing and riding
  • Responsible for consistent grooming, creating clean lines on the slopes and effectively cleaning up pattern discrepancies that result in crooked lines and/or turn marks
  • Ability to maintain grooming standards including at night on uneven terrain and in adverse weather conditions
  • Perform general maintenance of the snowcats and informs mechanics of any issues
  • Must pass ASC and Colorado snowmobile test (as required)
  • Other duties as assigned

Education & Experience Requirements
  • Must be 18 years or older
  • High school diploma or equivalent required

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to communicate, follow oral and written directions in English
  • Ability to ski or ride at an intermediate level preferred
  • Ability to work in collaboration with others to achieve team goals
  • Ability to remain focused, organized, flexible, and detail-oriented
  • Follows all safety policies and procedures and exercises caution when working
Additional Information
Work environment and physical demands
  • Ability to reach, crouch, kneel, stand, bend or be on your feet for extended periods of time
  • Regularly work in wet, cold, hot conditions requiring the use of protective apparel/equipment to prevent exposure to the elements and may be required to walk on slippery and uneven surfaces
  • Must be able to frequency lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. individually or with assistance
