SpaceX seeks an SMT Rework Technician to join a focused team supporting PCBA rework and harness repairs, collaborating with engineering on new products and test racks. You will lead NPI rework builds, program and operate rework equipment, and drive root-cause resolution to reduce defects.

The role requires 3+ years in SMT rework and IPC-A-610/J-STD-001/ IPC-7711/7721 certifications; on-site Texas location with overtime and shift options.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent plus 3+ years in SMT/PCBA rework equipment and processes.
• IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, and/or IPC-7711/7721 certification preferred.

Responsabilités

SMT REWORK TECHNICIAN

As an SMT (Surface-Mounted Technology) Rework Technician you would be joining a small team that supports PCBA (Printed Circuit Board Assembly) rework with the highest grade of difficulty and harness repairs coming from a variety of our Starlink Production Departments. Furthermore, you would work alongside our engineering team in the development of new products such as PCBA, harness, electronic components, and test rack systems.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Own and execute new product introduction (NPI) rework builds across all relevant work centers, delivering qualified processes on aggressive timelines.
• Program, qualify, load, and operate automated and semi-automated rework equipment; own equipment readiness and capability metrics.
• Lead triage of non-conforming PCBAs, drive root-cause resolution, and implement preventative actions with measurable reductions in rework rates.
• Own resolution of production rework issues while safeguarding design integrity, product quality, and delivery timelines.
• Own the successful transition of rework processes and tooling from development to high-volume production, including training and documentation handoff.
• Identify, prioritize, and deliver continuous improvement projects that improve rework yield, performance, and time.
• Define, implement, and own maintenance schedules, spares strategies, and support activities for all rework equipment and tools.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

• High school diploma or equivalency certificate and 3+ years of professional experience with SMT and/or PCBA rework equipment and processes.
• Possess IPC-A-610, J-STD-001, and/or IPC-7711/7721 (rework/repair) certification.

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Associate or bachelor’s degree in engineering, math, science, or related technical discipline.
• 4+ years of hands‑on experience owning SMT rework equipment operation, programming, and process control in a high‑volume production setting.
• Direct ownership of SMT rework equipment maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and support, including defining preventive maintenance programs and uptime metrics.
• Proven experience implementing Design for Manufacturability (DFM) specifically for complex SMT assemblies.
• Ability to create and deliver technical presentations for rework process readiness, design reviews, and manufacturing readiness reviews.
• Experience leading the transition of SMT rework processes from design/NPI to volume manufacturing as part of cross‑functional teams in fast‑paced iterative environments.
• Strong SPC knowledge with demonstrated experience applying statistical methods to track, control, and improve rework process capability, yield, and defect rates.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Must be willing to work overtime and weekends as needed.
• Must be available to work at least one of the following shifts:
  • A Shift: 5:00 AM - 5:00 PM (Sunday - Tuesday, every other Wednesday)
  • B Shift: 5:00 AM - 5:00 PM (Thursday - Saturday, every other Wednesday)
  • C Shift: 5:00 PM - 5:00 AM (Sunday - Tuesday, every other Wednesday)
  • D Shift: 5:00 PM - 5:00 AM (Thursday - Saturday, every other Wednesday)
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 25 lbs.
• Repetitive assembly operations, grasping, standing, lifting, bending, pulling, pushing, stooping, stretching, and carrying are generally required to perform the functions of this position.
• Must be able to distinguish colors as required.
