Job summary

Major Talent is seeking an SME Engineer – Packaging to serve as the enterprise authority for packaging equipment and line systems across the manufacturing network. The role covers design, integration, and performance of packaging machinery and capital assets, including bulk/B2B packaging, retail lines, and filling systems.

This remote role requires residency in the U.S. and offers wide-ranging opportunities to influence line design, standards, and automation strategies across multiple facilities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s in Engineering.
  • 10+ years in packaging equipment engineering or capital execution.
  • Expertise in line design, equipment selection, and integration.
  • Experience developing technical standards and specifications.
  • Strong understanding of packaging operations in food/dairy environments.
  • Knowledge of hygienic design principles.
  • Understanding of OEE and performance metrics.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills.
  • Experience with large-scale packaging capital projects.
  • Experience with high-speed automated lines.
  • Experience working with OEMs and integrators.
  • Familiarity with controls and automation strategies.
  • Experience implementing enterprise standards.
  • Working knowledge of packaging materials (equipment-focused).

  • Provide technical leadership for full packaging line design and integration.
  • Lead technical reviews of capital projects (layout, selection, integration, operability).
  • Serve as final authority for packaging system engineering decisions.
  • Support strategic decisions on line design, capacity, and automation strategy.
  • Translate packaging requirements into practical equipment solutions.
  • Participate in feasibility studies focused on equipment and operational performance.
  • Make high-quality technical decisions in complex scenarios.
  • Provide targeted technical support to Operational Excellence as a secondary responsibility, engaging when specialized expertise is required.
  • Support resolution of complex issues beyond site capability.
  • Act as escalation resource for critical or high-impact events.
  • Build and maintain enterprise standards for equipment, integration, and automation.
  • Establish best practices for hygienic equipment design and food safety.
  • Provide expertise in equipment/material compatibility.
  • Provide guidance on line efficiency and sustainability considerations.
  • Monitor emerging packaging equipment and automation technologies.

As an SME Engineer – Packaging, you willserve as the enterprise technical authority for packaging equipment and line systems across the manufacturing network. This role is focused on the engineering, integration, and performance of packaging machinery and capital assets, spanning bulk/B2B packaging, retail packaging lines, liquid filling systems, and solid product packaging.

This role is focused on packaging equipment, systems, and capital infrastructure—not primary package design or material development.
