Qualifications

  • Available to work 40 hours per week for the 10-week duration.

Responsibilities

  • Rotate through energy engineering, sales, and core business areas (HVAC, Lighting, Building Automation) to gain a holistic view of Siemens solutions.
  • Perform energy engineering activities: analyze HVAC energy use, run calculations and simulations, support facility audits, collect field data, identify energy improvement opportunities.
  • Assist with project development: review specs/drawings, help with site visits, prepare energy savings analyses, and contribute to proposals.
  • Engage with clients and Siemens teams by joining meetings and collaborating with vendors to deliver sustainable solutions.
  • Build professional skills through exposure to go-to-market strategies and networking with other interns.

Smart Buildings Energy Engineering Internship

Location: San Diego area office

Undergraduate: Rising Junior or Senior

Duration: 10 weeks

Start Dates: May 17, May 24, June 7 or June 14, 2027

Hours: Full-time, 40 hours/week

We are seeking qualified candidates for our Summer 2027 Smart Buildings Internship Program as an Energy Engineering Intern.
You’ll make an impact by:
  • Rotating through energy engineering, sales, and core business areas (HVAC, Lighting, and other Building Automation systems and components) to gain a holistic understanding of how Siemens delivers smart building solutions.
  • Spending the majority of your time on energy engineering activities—learning how HVAC systems impact energy use, performing calculations and simulations, supporting facility audits, gathering field data, and identifying opportunities for facility improvement measures (FIMs).
  • Contributing to project development by reviewing specifications and drawings, assisting with site visits, preparing energy savings analyses, and supporting preliminary and final proposals for customers.
  • Engaging directly with clients and Siemens teams by joining meetings, shadowing project managers, and collaborating with outside vendors and consultants to deliver sustainable solutions.
  • Building professional skills through exposure to our go‑to‑market strategies, participation in executive discussions, and networking with other interns to explore career pathways at Siemens.
You’ll win us over by having the following qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
  • Current undergraduate student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Sustainability / Energy Engineering or related STEM field.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship.
  • Candidates must be available to work 40 hours per week for the duration of the 10‑week internship.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & Outlook). Skilled in using Windows laptops and adept at learning new software for programming and troubleshooting automation equipment.
  • Proficiency in building templates in Power BI. Ability to power‑query using AI chatpots, or programs such as VBA or Python is a plus.
  • Ability to work in a remote team environment providing dedicated support to our customers
  • Demonstrated leadership potential with good verbal and written English communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, writing, presentation and critical thinking skills.
