Job summary

Capital One's Small Business Lending Operations team seeks a Commercial Underwriter in Plano, TX to assess loans up to $10MM and support growth of small businesses. Ideal candidates have 3+ years in credit underwriting or related fields; a finance or accounting background is preferred.

Responsibilities:

• Underwrites and performs renewals or reviews of loans up to $10MM.
• Underwrites and decisions new loan requests, renewals, annual reviews, and credit assessments up to the limit of his/her commercial loan authority in accordance with Capital One Bank loan policy and portfolio performance objectives.
• Provides outstanding service to business bankers and other internal partners in the organization.
• Works with Small Business Bankers in structuring loan requests in a manner which will best fit Capital One policy while mitigate lending risks and best meeting borrower needs.
• Delivers a great overall customer experience, working closely with the Business Loan Advocates that are accountable for the end to end loan process from application to funding.
• Recommends commercial loan risks rating grades as part of the loan underwriting process, annual reviews, other interim reviews.
• Ensures appropriate application of all bank and line of business policies and procedures; supporting and driving adherence to regulatory compliance requirements.
• Is proactive about identifying and delivering improvements in our Small Business policy, underwriting, and/or risk management, and performs special project work as appropriate.
• Contributes to department training and growth.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree or Military experience
• At least 3 years of experience in credit administration, small business underwriting, commercial loan underwriting or commercial lending

Preferred Qualifications:

• 4+ years of experience in credit administration, small business underwriting, commercial loan underwriting or commercial lending
• Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting
• Completion of a formal credit training

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

Plano, TX: $109,900 - $125,400 for Small Business Underwriter I

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
