Job summary

Communities Unlimited, Inc. is seeking a Small Business Consultant to provide one-on-one management and business skills consulting for startup and existing small businesses across seven states, with emphasis around the office region.

You’ll build content for trainings, facilitate webinars, and foster local partnerships to boost economic development. The role emphasizes helping owners with cash flow, pricing, hiring, records, and borrowing readiness, often in rural or underserved communities.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in business, management, finance, administration, or a related field with at least 1 year in business ownership or startup experience.
• Or Bachelor’s degree in business, management, finance, administration, or a related field with at least 5 years in ownership/startup/consulting roles supporting growth.
• Strong facilitation and written communication skills and comfort with everyday business software.
• Ability to develop workshops and build new partnerships in target communities.
• Ability to work one-on-one with entrepreneurs to build their management capacity.

Responsibilities

• Conduct financial and operational assessments for small business clients and recommend growth strategies.
• Develop service scopes, financial projections, and actionable plans while delivering consulting and financial literacy education.
• Analyze financial data to support decisions and guide positive growth outcomes.
• Build relationships with community leaders, business owners, and partners to promote resources and funding opportunities.
• Maintain client documentation, reporting, timekeeping, and support team collaboration and training.

Provide direct management and business skills consulting to small businesses in a 7-state area, focusing on startup and growth.

Description

The primary role of this position is to provide direct, one-on-one, management and business skills consulting services to startup and existing small businesses located throughout our 7-state service area, with primary emphasis in the region around their office location. Position assignments include developing content for trainings and topic facilitation for webinars and workshops related to small business start and growth and building relationships with local community leaders to facilitate economic development activities related to small business growth and development.

We're looking for someone who has owned or runs/ran a small business and wants to help other owners do it well. You'll work one-on-one with startup and existing small business owners, mostly in rural and underserved communities, on cash flow, pricing, hiring, record-keeping, and getting ready to borrow.

Work Location: An ideal candidate will work from home; however, candidate must currently reside in the Central Arkansas area.

Small Business Consultant Requirements:

• Education
  • Option A: Master’s degree in business, management, finance, administration, or a related field and at least 1 year experience in business ownership, startups, business development, operations, finance, consulting, or leadership roles supporting business growth or turnaround efforts.
  • Option B: Bachelor’s degree in business, management, finance, administration, or a related field and at least 5 years' experience in business ownership, startups, business development, operations, finance, consulting, or leadership roles supporting business growth or turnaround efforts.
• Strong facilitation, writing, and communication skills, and comfort with everyday business software.
• Ability to develop workshops related to small business management consulting.
• Ability to reach out and build new and existing partnerships in the target communities.
• Ability to work one-on-one with entrepreneurs with the goal of building their business skills and management capacity as business owners.
• Ability to work independently, with accountability for results.
• Ability to assist in training other management consultants.
• Must maintain a valid driver's license, have reliable transportation, an acceptable driving record, and at least the state minimum personal liability auto insurance coverage.
• Must be authorized to work in the USA.

Small Business Consultant Duties:

• Conduct financial and operational assessments for small business clients, identify growth challenges, and recommend strategies to improve business performance and sustainability.
• Develop scopes of services, financial projections, and actionable plans while delivering consulting services and financial literacy education to business owners.
• Analyze financial data, including ratio analysis, to support decision-making and guide clients toward positive business growth outcomes.
• Build and maintain relationships with community leaders, business owners, and partners while promoting economic development resources and identifying new funding or partnership opportunities.
• Maintain accurate client documentation, reporting, timekeeping, and communication while supporting team collaboration, staff training, and organizational initiatives.
