Job summary

Koil in Detroit, a subsidiary of Cleveland-Cliffs Inc., is seeking a Slitter Operator for First Shift to lead the slitting crew, verify production data, and optimize material processing. The role emphasizes safety, quality, and efficient operation in a metal rolling environment.

The operator will build the slitter head, guide the team through setup, and ensure timely production with accurate documentation, while maintaining a clean and safe work area and upholding company safety standards.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent job experience.
• Advanced knowledge and skill level of slitting machine.
• Must be able to read Standard/Metric measuring tape.
• Must be able to perform basic mathematic calculations of standard/metric measurements.
• Basic computer skills.
• Hi-lo and overhead crane experience preferred but not required if trainable.
• Good verbal and written communication skills; ability to read, understand, and comply with work directions, training manuals, and safety rules.
• Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Responsibilities

• Verify production run information for accuracy, provide slitting team with setup and process instructions.
• Build slitter head to optimize machine capabilities.
• Process coils while maintaining quality tolerances.
• Complete Slitting Production Report and Slitting Report.
• Monitor and inspect equipment for safe operation and report maintenance concerns.
• Maintain clean and safe work environment.
• Ensure team safety and halt machine if unsafe.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Koil has an immediate opportunity for a Slitter Operator on First Shift.
