Job summary

Cleveland-Cliffs, a leading steel producer, seeks a Slitter Assistant for the first shift in Detroit. You will learn the slitting process, verify coil data, and assist operators to ensure safe, efficient production. Basic math, measurement accuracy, and good communication are essential.

Responsibilities include setup verification, documentation, and supporting packaging while maintaining clean, safe workspace. Forklift experience is preferred and a valid driver’s license is required.

Qualifications

• High School or equivalent required.
• Novice to basic slitting machine knowledge is acceptable.
• Ability to read tape measurements and perform standard/metric conversions.

Responsibilities

• Verify coil process information for accuracy on each work order.
• Verify setup and process instructions with Operator.
• Package finished materials per work orders or Operator instructions.
• Assemble slitter heads and separator arms per Operator directions.
• Maintain quality tolerances during coil processing.
• Complete Slitting Production Reports and Slitting Reports with Operator.
• Monitor equipment for safe operation and report maintenance needs.
• Maintain clean, safe work environment and assist packaging team as needed.

Location: Detroit, MIKoil Metals is a Detroit-based steel service center that processes and distributed various flat rolled metal products. Koil has an immediate opportunity for a Slitter Assistant on First Shift. The Slitter Assistant's primary responsibility is to produce a quality product in a safe, productive and profitable manner, understanding and following instructions from the Operator throughout the operational processes. The Slitter Assistant will learn all aspects of the slitting process.Summary of Responsibilities:Verify coil process information for accuracy upon each work order.Verify set up and process instructions with Operator.Verify correct coils are supplied for the production run performing required verification checks.Package finished materials based on the work orders requirements or Operators instructions.Build slitter heads to ensure best possible options within the machine's capabilities.Build separator over arms to the proper sizes based on Operators’ instructions.Process coils ensuring quality tolerances are adhered to.Work with the Operator to complete all associated documentation and reports (Slitting Production Report, Slitting Report).Monitor/Inspect equipment for safe operation and/or advise management of any maintenance concerns.Must have good housekeeping and the ability to maintain a clean and safe work environment.Support and assist packaging team members.Minimum Qualifications:High School or equivalent job experience.Entry knowledge and Novice skill level of slitting machines.Must be able to read Standard/Metric measuring tape.Must be able to perform basic mathematic calculations of standard/metric measurements.Must know fractional to decimal conversions by 1/16” increments.Must be able to take instructions from the Slitter Operator.Basic computer skills.Good verbal and written communication skills; ability to read, understand and comply with work directions, training manuals and safety rules.Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation.Fork truck experience.Koil is a subsidiary of Cleveland-Cliffs Inc., the largest flat-rolled steel company and the largest iron ore pellet producer in North America.
