Job summary

The Sleep Technologist Supervisor at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters oversees the sleep center’s workflow, ensuring safe, efficient polysomnography services for all ages and compliance with AASM and RPSGT guidelines; works under clinical supervision of the practice physician(s) and reports to department leadership.

Responsibilities include directing staff, coordinating scheduling and payroll, maintaining QA, and training competency validation.

  • Deliver developmentally appropriate psychosocial and clinical care.
  • Provide patient/family education and support.
  • Maintain accountability for quality of all polysomnography modalities per AASM/RPSGT guidelines.
  • Assist in staff selection, training, orientation and competency validation.
  • Maintain QA reporting for inter-scorer reliability.
  • Prepare and maintain staff work schedules and payroll approvals.
  • Operate polysomnography equipment effectively.
  • Assist with performance improvement, billing, budget, equipment and design processes related to polysomnography.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Overview

The Sleep Technologist Supervisor is responsible for supervising, coordinating and directing the workflow and functions of designated service personnel to facilitate safe and efficient work flow and practices. Supervises plans, develops and organizes services and activities to support sleep center practices. Works in close cooperation with and under the clinical guidance and supervision of the practice physician(s) for clinical services. Demonstrates excellence in practice characterized by quality patient care. Reports to department leadership.

Responsibilities
  • Provides all modalities of polysomnographic procedures for all age groups following established policies, procedures and regulations (hospitalized and ambulatory patients).
  • Provides developmentally appropriate psychosocial and clinical care respective to the assigned patient population.
  • Provides patient/family education.
  • Maintains accountability and responsibility for the performance and quality of all modalities of Polysomnographic procedures in accordance with the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) and Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) guidelines and departmental policies.
  • Assists in the selection, training, orientation and competency validation of designated personnel.
  • Maintains quality assurance (QA) reporting for inter-scorer reliability.
  • Prepares and maintains staff work schedules and payroll approval processes.
  • Effectively operates equipment.
  • Assists with performance improvement, billing, budget, equipment and design processes related to polysomnography procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Licenses and Certifications
  • Virginia state licensure as a Polysomnographic Technologist.
Minimum Education and Experience
  • 2-3 years sleep study experience required.
  • Professional knowledge of Polysomnographic procedures, principles, equipment operations and maintenance as normally acquired through completion of an approved training program.
  • Ability to function independently.
  • Demonstrates leadership skills, excellent communication skills, and strong critical thinking skills necessary.
  • Analytical skills necessary to effectively detect pathologies based on knowledge of physiological cause effect of diseases and clinical procedures.
  • Ability to travel.
  • Rotating Shifts may be required.
  • CPR Training required and/or must be obtained within 45 days of hire.
Working Conditions
  • Expected to work in a patient care environment with minimal exposure to environmental hazards such as, but not limited to, excessive noise, dust, or extremes in temperatures. Exposure to communicable diseases and moderately adverse working conditions due to the need to perform certain patient care activities can be expected.
