Job summary

Forward Labs in Flint, MI is seeking a Board-Certified Sleep Technologist to join our overnight sleep lab team. The role requires RPSGT, CRT-SDS, or CRT/RRT with RST credentials.

You will independently perform overnight studies, PAP titrations, and related diagnostics with minimal supervision, ensuring high-quality data and patient care. Responsibilities include patient preparation, sensor application per AASM standards, real-time scoring, and handling emergencies.

Qualifications

  • Active board certification in one of: RPSGT, CRT-SDS, or CRT/RRT with RST credential.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification required.
  • Strong knowledge of AASM scoring criteria and PAP titration protocols.
  • Ability to work independently overnight in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Responsibilities

  • Review patient history and verify orders prior to testing.
  • Greet and orient patients for in-center and home sleep testing.
  • Apply EEG, EOG, EMG, ECG, respiratory sensors per AASM standards.
  • Independently conduct full-night PSG, titrations, MSLT/MWT.
  • Score sleep stages and events in real time; manage PAP therapy per protocol.
  • Respond to emergencies and equipment malfunctions during overnight shifts.
  • Mentor trainees and support staff; maintain accurate documentation.

Job Summary

Forward Labs is hiring a Board-Certified Sleep Technologist to join our overnight sleep lab team in Flint, MI. This role is ideal for an experienced polysomnographic technologist holding RPSGT (Registered Polysomnographic Technologist), CRT-SDS (Certified Respiratory Therapist – Sleep Disorders Specialist), or CRT/RRT with RST (Registered Sleep Technologist) credentials. You will independently perform and manage overnight sleep studies, PAP titrations, and related diagnostic procedures with minimal supervision, ensuring accurate data acquisition and an excellent patient experience.

Key Responsibilities
Sleep Study Preparation & Patient Care
  • Review patient history, verify physician orders, and confirm insurance/consent documentation prior to testing.
  • Greet and orient patients for in-center and out-of-center (home) sleep testing, explaining procedures clearly and compassionately.
  • Select, calibrate, and troubleshoot polysomnography (PSG) equipment to ensure accurate signal acquisition.
  • Apply EEG, EOG, EMG, ECG, respiratory, and other sensors in accordance with AASM (American Academy of Sleep Medicine) standards.
Independent Sleep Study Administration
  • Independently conduct full-night diagnostic PSG, split-night, CPAP/BiPAP titration, MSLT, MWT, and parasomnia studies.
  • Perform physiological calibrations, "lights out"/"lights on" protocols, and real-time data quality checks.
  • Recognize and score sleep stages, respiratory events, arousals, and cardiac/movement abnormalities in real time.
  • Initiate and adjust PAP therapy, supplemental oxygen, and other interventions per protocol and physician orders.
  • Respond to patient safety events, medical emergencies, and equipment malfunctions during overnight shifts.
  • Manage portable/home sleep testing (HSAT) equipment setup, patient education, data download, and troubleshooting.
  • Deliver age-specific, culturally competent care across all patient populations (pediatric through geriatric).
Compliance, Quality & Team Support
  • Maintain strict compliance with HIPAA, infection control, and sleep center safety protocols.
  • Support quality assurance initiatives, equipment maintenance, and inventory management.
  • Mentor sleep trainees and support staff as needed; may assist in training new technologists.
  • Maintain accurate, timely documentation to support physician scoring and interpretation.
  • Maintain current CPR/BLS certification and required continuing education for credential renewal.
Required Qualifications
  • Active board certification in one of the following (required):
    • RPSGT (Registered Polysomnographic Technologist), or
    • CRT-SDS (Certified Respiratory Therapist – Sleep Disorders Specialist), or
    • CRT or RRT with RST (Registered Sleep Technologist) credential
  • Current CPR/BLS certification.
  • Strong working knowledge of AASM scoring criteria, PAP titration protocols, and PSG equipment.
  • Excellent communication, critical thinking, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently overnight in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Associate or bachelor's degree in Polysomnographic/Sleep Technology or related allied health field.
  • Prior experience with home sleep apnea testing (HSAT) and complex PAP titrations.
  • Experience mentoring or training sleep technicians/trainees.

  • Pay: Competitive, commensurate with certification and experience (rate to be finalized based on market data for board-certified RPSGT/CRT-SDS/RST technologists — typically above entry-level trainee pay)
