Job summary

Good Shepherd Health Care System is seeking a Sleep Lab Manager to oversee the daily operations of the sleep lab and EEG services. You will work with the Sleep Center Medical Director and Sr.

Qualifications

  • Required: Associate’s degree in sciences, healthcare or equivalent.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's or master's in health care or business administration.
  • Credentials required: RPSGT/RST/CRT-SDS/RRT-SDS or CPSGT within 1 year of hire date.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Two years of management or leadership experience required.
  • Preferred: 5 years in health care management.

Responsibilities

Definition Of Position:

This position is responsible for managing the daily operations of sleep lab and EEG services. Works collaboratively with the Sleep Center Medical Director and Sr. Director of Ancillary Services to assure sleep technologist staff produce high quality sleep and EEG testing in accordance with the standards set forth by American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) and ABRET for neurodiagnostic testing and credentialing, and other regulatory bodies. This position will be responsible for the oversight of all sleep lab and EEG staffing, training and supervision of personnel. This accountability encompasses: operations or patient care outcomes as applicable, service excellence, human resource issues, fiscal management, quality improvement compliance, budgeting, and communication. Emphasis should be placed on creating a positive environment that fosters professional growth and retention.

Qualifications
Education

Required: Associate’s degree in sciences, healthcare or equivalent required.

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in a health care related field, or a bachelor’s or master’s degree in business administration.

Licenses/ Certifications/ Registrations

Required:

  • American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) credentials as Registered Polysomnography Technologist (RPSGT), or American Board of Sleep Medicine {ABSM) credentials as Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) or National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) credentials as Certified Respiratory Therapist-Sleep Disorders Specialist (CRT-SDS), or Registered Respiratory Therapist - Sleep Disorders Specialist (RRT-SDS) preferred. If not RPSGT credentialed, required to obtain CPSGT or equivalent within 1 year of hire date or 6 months of eligibility.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Preferred:

  • Three years as a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist or Registered Respiratory Therapist with proficiency in all competences of an RPSGT preferred.
Experience

Required:

  • Two years’ management or leadership experience required.
  • Computer literate.
  • Ability to learn and apply new information quickly and to interpret insurance needs and offer appropriate solutions to customers.
  • Ability to easily multi-task in a team environment.
  • Concise and accurate documentation practices.
  • Be self-assured, tactful, and supportive as this position maintains existing, and fosters new relationships with supporting health care entities.
  • Working knowledge of current Medicare, Medicaid and insurance regulations related to sleep lab operations.

Preferred:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in health care management is preferred.
  • Related sales and/or customer service experience preferred.
Physical Requirements:

The physical and sensory functions described below are essential to the successful performance of this position. Tactile perception is also important for assessing physical characteristics such as temperature, size, shape, or texture during patient care. Motor coordination is required for reaching, grasping, handling, and performing fine motor tasks necessary for the use of medical equipment and procedures. The position also involves occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling when assisting patients or accessing equipment. Walking and standing are typically continuous throughout the shift. The role requires the ability to lift to 50 pounds independently and involves frequent pushing, pulling, carrying, or repositioning of objects or patients weighing up to 25 pounds. There may also be occasional lifting or transferring of individuals weighing over 100 pounds, with the expectation that appropriate lifting techniques, mechanical aids, or team assistance will be used to ensure safety. Working Conditions:

This position is performed primarily in an indoor healthcare environment, such as a hospital, clinic, or long-term care facility. While the work setting is protected from outdoor weather conditions, it may be subject to variable indoor temperatures. The role involves frequent exposure to infectious and contagious diseases, hazardous materials, and medical equipment, with the expectation that all staff follow appropriate safety protocols and utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) as required. The health care environment can be fast-paced and unpredictable, requiring the ability to respond quickly to changing circumstances, including high-pressure or emergency situations. The work setting also involves multiple simultaneous demands and varying levels of noise due to medical equipment, staff activity, and patient needs.
