Job summary

Duke Health is seeking qualified sleep technologists for Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC. The role involves clinical assessment, polysomnography, data reporting, and therapeutic titration for sleep disorders across adolescent to geriatric patients.

Responsibilities include equipment calibration, patient preparation, and safe administration of PAP devices. Levels 1–3 involve increasing independence and potential leadership, with a commitment bonus of $7,500 for eligible new hires.

Qualifications

  • Level 1 requires high school diploma/GED plus 1 year of post-secondary education or current enrollment in a health-related program (PSG or Respiratory Therapy emphasis).
  • Level 2 and 3 require an Associate’s Degree or completion of a polysomnography/respiratory therapy program (minimum 1 year).
  • All levels require current BLS certification.
  • RPSGT or Respiratory Therapist sleep certification is required for Levels 1-3.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and verify medical orders; explain procedures to patients and orient them to the sleep center.
  • Calibrate testing equipment; identify and report abnormalities.
  • Perform routine PAP mask fittings and apply electrodes/sensors; assist with “lights out” and “lights on” procedures.
  • Record observations, sleep stages, and events to aid interpretation.
  • Assist with patient safety and therapy (BPAP, O2).
  • Level 2 and 3: independently review patient data and adjust procedures as needed.
  • Level 3: lead, supervise Level 1/2 staff and manage complex testing.
