The Field Service Technician (III) will be expected to travel throughout the USA. This role will work within a team to execute mechanical/electrical tasks in direct support of completing field service projects on equipment utilized in Power Transmission, Distribution, and Generation. This role will participate in the installation, maintenance, and/or repair of electrical equipment following defined procedures and industry standards. The technician will also market the company's capabilities for future opportunities. The role requires independent troubleshooting and analysis of technical requirements, as well as the ability to compose Field Reports.
To be fully proficient in 3 of the 5 technical competencies: Transformer Assembly, Electrical Testing, Controls, LTCs, Oil Processing.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Receive assignments and instructions from lead and manager – both verbal and written.
- Read, understand, and follow guidelines set forth by company procedures and blueprints when performing assigned work.
- Select proper materials and parts for assembly operations.
- Set up and layout materials and tools for all assembly operations.
- Maintain the required clearances and dimensions for the specified voltage classifications.
- Possess advanced knowledge and troubleshooting experience in electrical testing/theory, controls, and oil processing.
- Understand and interpret blueprints.
- Compose Field Reports (Daily Activity reports, etc.) and any other job site or customer-specific reports in a timely manner.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Mechanically inclined with basic knowledge of hand tools.
- Understanding of transformer and industry specifications for troubleshooting and data analysis.
- Ability to conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions.
- Basic understanding of operating heavy machinery/equipment.
- Self-directed with a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and ability to follow instructions/directions.
- Conformity to all safety rules and proper use of safety equipment.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Required Education / Experience
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Advanced post-high school education in lieu of 5 years of industry-specific work experience.
- Utility experience.
- Valid Driver’s License.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Key Working Relationships
- Collaborates with other departments (Customers, Components, Sales/Marketing, transformer plants such as Goldsboro and Waukesha).
- Communicates with customers and managers to exchange accurate information and make quick decisions.
Physical Demands
- Estimated hours for this position are 60 hours per week.
- Ability to stand for 90% of the time.
- Travel up to 95% to different job sites regionally, by vehicle and plane.
- Operate heavy machinery, climb, and work at heights.
- Lift, pull, push, and carry up to 50 lbs.
Working Conditions
- Work in a non-controlled environment subject to weather conditions.
