NorthWest Arkansas Community College (NWACC) is seeking a Skilled Tradesman, HVAC to maintain campus heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration systems. You will perform preventive maintenance, diagnose failures, and carry out repairs to keep campus operations running smoothly.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoots, repairs, and overhauls compressors, pumps, air handlers, air dryers, heat exchangers, HVACR equipment, and related mechanical, electrical and electronic components
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs valves, electrical valves, heat-transfer equipment, ventilation equipment, air-distribution equipment, pumps, and heating, air-conditioning, and refrigeration systems
  • Reads gauges and instruments and adjusts valves, controls, and pumps to regulated fluid pressure, temperature, and distribution in HVAC and boiler systems
  • Tests malfunctioning systems and components using electrical, mechanical, digital, and pneumatic controls, metes, and diagnostic equipment
  • Performs planned and preventative maintenance, routine servicing, and repairs on refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment of various types, sizes, and temperature ranges
  • Maintains and repairs cooling towers, water-treatment facilities, tower-distribution systems, HVACR controls, and energy-management systems
  • Interprets prints, specifications, diagrams, manuals, schematics, building plans, and work drawings and maintains required parts, tools, and service records
  • Additional duties may be assigned as necessary to support the goals and objectives of the department and college

The Skilled Tradesman, HVAC performs skilled work in the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and installation of heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, refrigeration, and related mechanical systems. The position support reliable and efficient campus operations through preventive maintenance, timely repairs, and accurate systems adjustments. Work includes HVACR equipment, pumps, air handlers, boilers, cooling towers, water-treatment systems, and building control or energy-management systems. The position follow applicable safety practices, codes, regulations, plans, specifications and technical instructions.


Essential Duties


  • Troubleshoots, repairs, and overhauls compressors, pumps, air handlers, air dryers, heat exchangers, HVACR equipment, and related mechanical, electrical and electronic components

Rate of Pay: $25.82 hourly *Higher compensation may be considered based on qualifications directly related to position.

Minimum Qualifications


  • The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma

  • Completion of required HVACR education or training associated with the required license or certification


Other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements, except certification or licensure requirements, upon approval of the Qualifications Review Committee.


Required License(s)/Certification(s)


  • HVAC Mechanic license in accordance with ACA 17-33-301

  • EPA 608 Certification


Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience maintaining and repairing commercial or institutional HVACR systems

  • Experience working with boilers, cooling towers, pumps, air handlers, and building automation or energy-management systems

  • Technical or trade-school education in HVACR or related field


Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities


  • Knowledge of HVACR methods, practices, materials, tools and safety precautions

  • Knowledge of laws, codes, and regulations applicable to HVACR work

  • Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, electronic, digital, and pneumatic controls

  • Skill in troubleshooting HVACR equipment and related mechanical systems

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, manuals, schematics, building plans, specifications, and work drawings

  • Ability to apply mathematical and analytical skills when estimating materials and evaluating system performance

  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions

  • Ability to maintain parts, tools, maintenance records, and equipment information


Physical Demands And Work Environment

The position requires the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull heavy materials and objects weighing up to 100 pounds or heavier weights with the use of proper equipment. The employee must be able to stand and walk long periods; work in and around buildings, con fined spaces, machinery, and elevated locations; climb and descend ladders; operate a motor vehicle; and use varied hand and power tools. Work may occur indoor and outdoors in hot, cold, wet, or humid conditions. The employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, vibrations, fumes, or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, extreme temperatures, electrical hazards, and loud noise.
