Job summary

San José State University is seeking an Automotive/Equipment Mechanic to perform skilled repair, maintenance and inspection of a diverse fleet and equipment in the Auto Shop. You will diagnose electrical and mechanical faults, repair engines, fabricate parts, and document work in computerized systems.

The role requires journey-level expertise, completion of an apprenticeship, and a valid drivers license; the CSU campus supports training, safety programs and a comprehensive benefits package.

Qualifications

• Must have journey-level automotive/mechanical skills.
• Completion of an apprenticeship program preferred.
• OSHA required physicals and examinations.
• Valid drivers license; CA license within 10 days.

Responsibilities

• Inspect automotive and equipment to determine corrective action.
• Diagnose and repair electrical systems in vehicles and equipment.
• Make repairs to automobiles, engines and construction equipment.
• Fabricate and modify equipment and parts.
• Perform smog tests as required.
• Repair pumps and compressors.
• Maintain vehicle inspection and repair records.
• May serve as campus vehicle inspector.
• Operate tools and computerized systems for maintenance work.
