Job summary

IEM is hiring a Skidding/E-House Engineering Manager in San Antonio to lead the structural engineering of skid-mounted packages and electrical houses. You will ensure code compliance, licensing, PE stamping, and safe lift calculations while guiding a skilled team toward on-time delivery.

The role requires a PE license, extensive IBC/code knowledge, and experience managing complex engineering programs with cross-functional teams and AHJs.

Qualifications

• Collaborate with PM, manufacturing, and QA to ensure manufacturability and on-schedule delivery.
• Stay current with IBC/state codes and adapt internal standards accordingly.

Position Summary:

The Skidding/E-House Engineering Manager leads the structural engineering discipline supporting the design and fabrication of skid-mounted equipment packages and electrical houses (E-Houses). This role is the primary technical authority for IBC code compliance, state licensing, state certifications/inspections, PE stamping, and lift calculations, and manages a team of engineers to ensure all skid and E-House structural designs are safe, code-compliant, and delivered on schedule. This position reports directly to the VP of Engineering.

Key Responsibilities:

• Serve as the primary technical authority on International Building Code (IBC) compliance for all skid-mounted equipment packages and electrical house (E-House) structural designs.
• Review, approve, and PE-stamp structural calculations, drawings, and specifications for skids and E-Houses in accordance with applicable codes and state requirements.
• Perform and oversee lift calculations and rigging plans to ensure the safe lifting, transport, and installation of skids and E-Houses.
• Manage state professional licensing for the engineering group, ensuring the team holds and maintains the licenses required in every state where projects are executed.
• Coordinate state certifications, inspections, and permitting activities for skid and E-House projects, acting as the primary liaison with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) and third-party inspectors.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of structural and design engineers supporting skidding and E-House programs.
• Partner with the VP of Engineering to establish structural engineering standards, design practices, and quality control processes for skids and E-Houses.
• Review project scopes and customer specifications early in the proposal and design phases to identify structural, code, and licensing requirements.
• Collaborate with project management, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure structural designs are manufacturable, code-compliant, and delivered on schedule.
• Evaluate site-specific loading conditions (seismic, wind, snow, transportation) and ensure designs are engineered accordingly.
• Support proposal and estimating efforts with structural engineering scope reviews, risk assessments, and man-hour estimates.
• Stay current on changes to the IBC, state building codes, and state licensing/certification requirements, and update internal engineering standards accordingly.
• Lead root cause investigations and corrective actions for structural or code-compliance issues identified during design, fabrication, or in the field.

Competencies:

• In-depth knowledge of the International Building Code (IBC) and applicable state/local building codes as they apply to the structural design of skids and E-Houses.
• Active Professional Engineer (PE) license, with demonstrated ability to stamp structural calculations and drawings.
• Working knowledge of state licensing, certification, and inspection processes for structural equipment and prefabricated structures.
• Proficiency in performing and reviewing lift calculations and rigging/transportation plans.
• Strong background in structural analysis and design, including relevant structural design software.
• Leadership and people-management skills, with the ability to build, mentor, and develop an engineering team.
• Task management and the ability to carry a plan to completion across a number of concurrent projects.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to interact directly with customers, sales, inspectors, other technical resources, and management.

• Excellent working knowledge of MS Office Suites (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, etc.).

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Structural, Civil, or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent professional experience.
• 15+ years of structural engineering experience within the skidding/E-House industry.
• Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required; ability to obtain licensure/reciprocity in additional states as needed.
• Demonstrated experience with IBC compliance, state licensing, state certifications/inspections, PE stamping, and lift calculations.
• Prior experience managing or leading an engineering team preferred.
• Experience working directly with customers, third-party inspectors, and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) preferred.
