Job summary

Windham Mountain Club in Windham, NY seeks a Ski Patroller for the winter season. This in-person role requires advanced skiing/riding skills and a strong safety focus to maintain a safe mountain environment.

Qualifications

  • Expert skier and/or snowboarder capable of safely navigating advanced terrain in all conditions.
  • Ability to perform rescue toboggan operations on difficult terrain.
  • Ability to lift, pull, carry, and move up to 200+ lbs. with assistance.
  • Current EMT, OEC, Paramedic, or Wilderness First Responder certification required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Mature, professional, and safety-focused.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor trails, lifts, and terrain to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
  • Open and inspect trails and lifts prior to public access.
  • Identify, mark, and report hazards, trail conditions, and safety concerns.
  • Maintain trail signage, fencing, padding, and other safety equipment.
  • Respond to accidents and medical emergencies using appropriate rescue equipment.
  • Provide first aid, mountain rescue, and lift evacuations as needed.
  • Complete accident reports and related documentation.
  • Assist guests and coordinate with other departments to support mountain operations.

Job description

Applicants must be able to ski/snowboard all mountain terrain comfortably while carrying equipment, navigate unopened terrain, identify potential hazards, and apply sound risk management practices.

Work Location: In-person role based in Windham, NY.

Seasonal Position: This role is available for the winter season.

Pay: 20-25 per hour based on experience

Anticipated Start Dates: December 15th through December 20th

*This start date is weather dependent

Schedule: Will require working early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays

Overview of Position:

The Ski Patroller is responsible for maintaining a safe mountain environment through trail and lift inspections, hazard identification and mitigation, emergency medical response, mountain rescue, lift evacuation, and guest assistance. This position requires advanced skiing/riding skills, sound judgment, and a strong commitment to safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor trails, lifts, and terrain to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
  • Open and inspect trails and lifts prior to public access.
  • Identify, mark, and report hazards, trail conditions, and safety concerns.
  • Maintain trail signage, fencing, padding, and other safety equipment.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Work outdoors on snow, ice, and uneven terrain for extended periods.
  • Bend, kneel, climb, reach, and balance regularly.
  • Tolerate cold temperatures, wind, snow, and changing weather conditions.
