Job summary

Holland America-Princess (Holland America Dawson City Inn) seeks an ice skating instructor to develop and deliver Learn to Skate lessons at borough venues such as Brett Memorial Ice Arena and Big Lake Lions Rec Center. You will assist with classes, shows, and clinics, create group routines, promote programs, and manage registrations and schedules while delivering quality customer service.

Qualifications

• ISI Instructor Certification required or obtained within one year of hire.
• Minimum three years of ice skating experience with ability to instruct at class level.
• Must pass pre-employment background check, drug screen, and physical.
• Valid Alaska driver’s license if driving duties are assigned.

Responsibilities

• Develops and delivers lesson plans for Learn to Skate classes; educates parents and skaters on equipment and techniques; evaluates students to ISI standards.
• Assists in implementing Learn to Skate classes, seasonal shows, competitions and clinics.
• Creates and choreographs group numbers; guides costumes, props, and performances.
• Promotes Learn to Skate classes to the public.
• Registers students and maintains program files; schedules ice time and handles payments.
• Travels with program facilitator to Borough facilities for Learn to Skate classes.

Job Summary

This position is responsible for instructing group lessons in the sport of ice skating.

Work is performed and duties are carried out in accordance with established policies, procedures, and Borough core values: Accountability, Customer Focus, Dedication, Integrity, Responsiveness and Teamwork.

Work Sites may include: Brett Memorial Ice Arena, Big Lake Lions Rec Center and occasional outdoor rinks.

Pay Grade

F1 - DOE

Minimum Requirements

Less than one year of experience in a similar position in an employed or volunteer role, sufficient to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position. Minimum of three (3) years of ice skating experience with the ability to demonstrate proficient skating skills sufficient to instruct at class level assigned.

Possession of Ice Skating Institute (ISI) Instructor Certification at the time of hire or must be obtained within one year of hire.

Must successfully pass a pre-employment background check, drug screen, and physical.

Possession of a valid driver's license issued by the State of Alaska for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. If assigned driving duties/responsibilities, candidate must be at least 19 years of age with one (1) year of driving experience.

Duties/Responsibilities

Develops and delivers lesson plans for Learn to Skate classes; educates parents and skaters on proper equipment and skating techniques; evaluates students according to Ice Skating Institute (ISI) standards.

Assists the Skating Program Facilitator in implementing Learn to Skate classes, seasonal shows, competitions and clinics.

Creates and choreographs group numbers for shows and competitions; provides guidance on costumes, props, and performance elements to parents and students.

Assists in promoting Learn to Skate classes to the public.

Registers students for the Learn to Skate program.

Maintains program files and records.

Schedules ice time for classes.

Provides customer service; collects fees and other payments.

Distributes and stores rental skates before and after group classes.

Assists with post-event cleanup.

Travels with program facilitator to provide Learn to Skate classes at Borough facilities.

Performs related duties.
