Job summary

Winter Village at Bryant Park is seeking a Learn to Skate Instructor to lead youth ice skating programs in New York City. Under the direction of the General Manager, you will design and deliver developmental classes, clinics, camps, and private trainings, fostering a positive, competitive environment.

The role requires coaching experience in youth programs, strong communication, CPR/First Aid, and the ability to work after-school and weekends in a fast-paced arena setting.

Responsibilities

• Teach relevant skills, tactics, and techniques to a wide range of athletes and groups.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the General Manager, the Learn to Skate Instructor will lead the facility's youth (and some adult) ice skating offerings, including, but not limited to: Developmental Classes (ages 3-8), After-School/Home School programs, Clinics, Camps, Private/Semi-Private Trainings, Performance Sessions, and Birthday Parties.

The Learn to Skate Instructor is responsible for coaching and developing skaters. This role involves designing and implementing training programs, providing instruction and feedback, and fostering a positive and competitive environment for athletes.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

• Teaching relevant skills, tactics, and techniques to a wide range of athletes, individuals and groups
• Develop and implement training programs tailored to the skill levels and goals of athletes
• Conduct on-ice and off-ice training sessions, focusing on technical skills, tactics, and physical conditioning
• Teach fundamental and advanced techniques of the Learn to Skate program
• Monitoring, evaluating, and enhancing athlete performance and needs.
• Providing suitable feedback via positivity, encouragement, example, and motivation
• Demonstrating an activity clearly by breaking down the task or technique into a sequence
• Friendly and courteous with athletes, parents, and team members
• Identifying athlete strengths and areas for development
• Ensuring a safe environment for all athletes
• Implementing the curriculum in an accurate, creative, positive, and efficient fashion
• Additional duties assigned by management

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

• Coaching licenses (or active pursuit of) preferred
• Familiarity with ISI and USFSA skating programs
• Neat in appearance and professional in manner and communication
• Inspiring confidence and self-belief
• At least 5 years of appropriate coaching/teaching skating in youth programs for athletes of various aptitudes
• Proven experience as a coach or in a related role, with a strong background in figure skating
• Ability to demonstrate and participate in on-ice activities
• Must have excellent interpersonal, problem solving and communication skills
• Must be a team player
• Must have excellent communication skills
• Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, predominately after-school and weekends
• Must possess current CPR/FIRST AID certifications, or willingness to obtain within a specified period

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Must be able to move or lift lightweight equipment
• Work is performed in an ice arena environment, which includes cold temperatures and varying noise levels
• Position requires standing and activity for extended periods of time (indoors or outdoors), squatting, stooping, jogging, or bending into awkward positions while performing job functions
