Qualifications

• 16 years of age or older by the time certification class ends.
• Ability to work in various weather conditions and under direct sunlight.
• An existing Red Cross Lifeguard Certification is accepted.
• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and under direct sunlight.
• Must be able to stand and sit for long periods of time.
• April certification classes are hosted for those seeking certification.

Responsibilities

• Monitor pool areas and ensure the safety of members and guests.
• Respond immediately to emergencies, including water rescues.
• Enforce safety rules and maintain cleanliness of the pool area.
• Perform opening tasks such as deck maintenance and restroom stocking; ensure cleanliness.
• Perform closing duties and manage trash and recyclables to keep facilities neat.
• Maintain a professional, approachable demeanor with members, guests, and staff.

Full job description

The Lifeguard position is responsible for ensuring the safety of all swimmers and pool visitors by actively monitoring the pool area, enforcing safety rules, and responding quickly to emergencies. This role includes promoting water safety, enforcing park rules, and providing excellent customer service. Lifeguards are expected to have strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to stay calm under pressure.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Monitor pool areas, water attractions, and surrounding areas to ensure the safety of all members and guests.
• Respond immediately to emergencies, including water rescues, first aid incidents, or any other safety concerns.
• Enforce all safety rules and regulations in a firm but courteous manner to prevent accidents or injuries.
• Perform opening tasks such as leaf blowing and seeping the pool deck and surrounding areas to maintain cleanliness. Inspect and clean restrooms to ensure they are stocked and ready for use.
• Perform closing duties such as cleaning the restrooms at the end of each shift to ensure they are ready for use the next day. Take out trash and recyclables from pool areas and surrounding park spaces ensuring a neat and tidy facility.
• Maintain a professional and approachable demeanor at all times, interacting with members, guests, and staff respectfully and courteously.

Requirements

Position Requirements

• San Jose Country Club Lifeguards are required to attain a Nationally Recognized Lifeguard Certification.
• SJCC requires that participants are 16 years old or will be by the time class ends.
• An existing Red Cross Lifeguard Certification is accepted but must be able to pass our assessment (Lifeguard skills and CPR)
• Ability to work in various weather conditions and under direct sunlight.
• Must be able to stand and sit for long periods of time.
• Classes are hosted in April for those looking to get certified.

Job Type: Part-Time, Monday through Sunday

Work Location: On-Site

Schedule: Varies to include weekends, nights, and holidays as required.
