BASIC PURPOSE

The purpose of this position is to assist the Program Director in monitoring the daily activities of the staff and children, to enforce the State and County licensing regulations throughout the Center and to assist with the clerical duties.

  • Prepare a safe and welcoming environment that is orderly, clean and appealing, and allows children to explore and grow.
  • Interact with children and parents and encourage their involvement in activities.
  • Assist Program Director in supervision of Teachers and Teacher Assistants; ensuring that the rules and regulations of The Salvation Army, and Education Codes (Title 5 and Title 22), are implemented.
  • Monitor for positive guidance among Teachers and Teaching Assistants.
  • Assist Program Director in maintaining and checking children's working folders and DRDP-R's.
  • Provide feedback to Program Director for annual evaluations of Teachers and Assistants.
  • Assist Program Director in evaluating children's environments twice per year.
  • Provide assistance to the Program Director to train and guide teachers in their lesson planning and in the implementation of developmentally appropriate activities and practices.
  • Fills in the classrooms to maintain adult-child ratio.
  • Maintain attendance and meal count records in office for monthly stats.
  • Answer telephones and take messages, as needed.
  • Give assistance to potential families with CEL, waiting lists and/or family file completion.
  • Assist in maintaining current office and janitorial supply inventory.
  • Attend staff meetings, trainings and provide training on in-service days.
  • Oversee morning or closing shift.
  • Be willing to develop professionally by furthering education in Early Childhood.
  • Other related duties, as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities And Other Qualifications Requirements

  • AA Degree required. Bachelor's Degree preferred in Early Childhood education or related field.
  • Must have Site Supervisor permit or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 12 EGE units completed prior to hire.
  • CPR and 15 hours of Health and Safety training.
  • Continuing professional development required.
  • Knowledge of CLASS helpful.

Skills

  • Minimum of 5 years experience working with young children in a childcare setting or Child Development Center.
  • Minimum of 2 years supervising adults.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with children in an active environment.
  • Understanding of developmentally appropriate practices for infants, toddlers and preschoolers.
  • Ability to communicate well verbally in English.
  • Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to operate under stressful working conditions in a rapidly changing work environment with multiple priorities.
  • Must pass DOJ, FBI, criminal and background clearances.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. for administrative positions.
  • Frequent walking around the Center and communicating with different rooms.
