Job summary

Head Start for Kent County is seeking a qualified individual to direct the operations and administration of its child development program. The role requires a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development and emphasizes compliance with federal and state regulations.

Job description

Directs the day‑to‑day operation, administration, and maintenance of the child development program and the facility. Manages and develops center staff to operate a safe and efficient center, addressing parent, child, and staff issues as needed. Serves as a content‑area expert within the State of Michigan Licensing Rules and Regulations to ensure compliance.

  • Ensures the implementation of the Head Start Program in accordance with the Federal Performance Standards and the State of Michigan Licensing Regulations.
  • Maintains an orderly, healthy, and safe environment conducive to optimal growth and development of children in compliance with agency, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Ensures classrooms are utilizing the designated curriculum in alignment with the Agency’s School Readiness Goals.
  • Conducts regular monitoring of classrooms through tools such as daily safety checklists, classroom monitoring, health and safety screeners, CLASS, and CACFP.
  • Monitors and reviews CQI data for continuous quality improvement.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher with a major in Early Childhood Education or Child Development, OR a bachelor’s degree with 18 credit hours in Early Childhood Education or Child Development and 480 hours of experience, OR a bachelor’s degree in any area with 18 credit hours in Early Childhood Education or Child Development and 1920 hours of experience.
  • Must have or complete a minimum of two (2) semester hours in childcare administration within six (6) months of hire in accordance with the Licensing Rules for Child Care Centers.
  • One‑year supervisory experience and two years’ experience in Head Start or other preschool programs.

*Requirements are based on the Head Start Reauthorization Act of 2007 (P.L. 110‑134) and the Licensing Rules for Child Care Centers R 400.8113 Rule 113‑13 and are subject to change.

Base Pay
  • $31.03 – $33.25
  • Mon‑Fri
    • Hours may vary but typically follow this schedule: Monday – Thursday [7:30am‑4:30pm] and Friday [7:30am‑11:30am].
