Job summary

Ford Motor Company is seeking a Supplier Technical Assistance Electronics Engineer to support global electronics manufacturing with manufacturing technical expertise. You will drive supplier risk assessments, PPAP compliance, and continuous quality improvements while collaborating across Ford and supplier leadership.

The role emphasizes on-site troubleshooting, cross-functional decision making, and travel to suppliers in the US, Mexico, and Canada to ensure on-time delivery and zero vehicle

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science / Engineering or academic equivalent.
  • 5 years minimum experience analyzing machine settings and vision systems.
  • Knowledge of IPC-610, ISO 9000, ANSI/ISO MIL standards; familiarity with automotive material regulations.
  • Ability to speak and write fluently in English.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct supplier risk assessments and onsite evaluations for new suppliers and programs.
  • Industrialize new suppliers/technologies and support capacity studies and eCAR reviews.
  • Review PPAP-related tooling work plans for Phased PPAP compliance.
  • Drive PFMEA, SCCAF, CP reviews and Health Chart deployment to ensure issue prevention.
  • Lead quality performance improvements using SPC, 8D, Gage R&R and Lean methods.

As a Supplier Technical Assistance (STA) Electronics Engineer! The responsibility of this role is to supports our Global suppliers with Manufacturing Technical expertise as they invest and grow their business to support ours.

This role involves implementing commodity-specific business plans to ensure suppliers exceed corporate launch, quality, capacity, warranty, and vehicle delivery metrics, while leading cross-functional decisions with Ford and supplier leadership to drive resolution of open issues, implementing actions to ensure zero vehicle losses from suppliers, and serving as the principal for on-site troubleshooting and corrective actions during emergency supplier situations, all while continuously growing expertise in electronics manufacturing.

What You'll Do
  • Supplier Risk Assessment & Evaluation - Conduct sourcing risk assessments, onsite evaluation visits, and supplier risk assessments for new suppliers, commodities, and programs (GPDS, GCST), identifying and mitigating risk.
  • Supplier Industrialization & Capacity - Industrialize new suppliers or technologies, and support the Capacity Purchase team in capacity studies and eCAR report reviews.
  • PPAP Compliance - Review supplier incremental tooling work plans for compliance with Ford's Phased PPAP process requirements.
  • Failure Mode Avoidance & Special Process Compliance - Drive failure mode avoidance through PFMEA, SCCAF, CP reviews, and Health Chart deployment, while ensuring compliance with special processes such as FEMR.
  • Continuous Improvement & Quality Performance - Drive manufacturing excellence (Q1-MSA, Health Charts, supplier training) and quality performance (Q1, QR, TGW, R/1000, CPU) using methodologies like G8D, SPC, Gage R&R, and Lean Manufacturing, including readouts to upper management.
  • Quality Issue Resolution & Compliance - Drive closure of supplier quality issues (Stop Ship/Build, BSAQ, Field Service Actions) and ensure compliance with organizational training and SIM process requirements.

  • Bachelor of Science / Engineering or Academic equivalent. Candidates without bachelor's degree will be considered with relevant automotive work experience in the supplier quality field.
  • 5 years minimum experience analyzing machine settings to (pick-and-place, solder printers, reflow ovens) and machine vision systems (SPI, AOI, AXI)
  • Understanding and application of relevant electronic manufacturing standards (e.g., IPC-610, ISO 9000, ANSI S20.20, MIL, IATF 16949) and material regulations.
  • Performing manufacturing feasibility assessments
  • Ability to speak and write fluently in English
  • Experience in process planning, implementation, and launch in Electronics Manufacturing Systems
  • Experience in project management or program launch
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Problem Solving and Quality System Tools (e.g., 8D, 3-Legged-5Whys, FMEA, Statistical Process Control (SPC), MSA)
  • Ability to travel to suppliers' sites (located in the US, Mexico and Canada) as required to conduct audits (up to 70%), support issues containment and resolution, and drive prevent re-occurrence actions.

  • Six Sigma Black Belt Certification: Demonstrated ability to lead quality improvements initiatives, apply Six Sigma philosophies and principles (including the DMAIC Model)

  • Experience mentoring internal teams of Supplier Quality Engineers
  • Experience Industrializing NEW Automotive Electronics Manufacturing suppliers in North America (Greenfield Sites) leading to on-time PPAP approval.
  • Experience in Ford's Phased PPAP and APQP Process and Deliverables
  • Experience using AI in problem solving cases

This position is a salary grade 7 and ranges from $84,480-141,360.

This position is a salary grade 8 and ranges from $96,720-162,120.
