Job summary

Gray Construction seeks a Site Safety Manager to join the Field Operations Team on a project-based basis. The role focuses on on-site safety leadership, hazard control, and implementation of policies across US projects.

The ideal candidate has a strong safety background, experience in construction, and the ability to train workers and mentor the site safety team. Travel is required as projects are scattered nationwide.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational or environmental health and safety or equivalent with 5+ years construction safety experience.
  • Proven leadership skills to build cohesive teams and manage safety programs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication with ability to train employees onsite.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as on-site Safety Officer for assigned projects.
  • Monitor job site for health and safety compliance and identify hazards.
  • Implement safety policies and coordinate with project manager and safety professionals.
  • Provide health and safety trainings to all employees onsite.
  • Develop and manage site safety plans and emergency response procedures.
  • Onboard and mentor new site safety team members.
  • Review contractor safety programs and ensure compliance.
  • Maintain safety records and coordinate with supervisors on issues.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Gray Construction is looking to add a Site Safety Manager to their Field Operations Team. This is a field/project based position.

What We Expect
  • Serve as on‑site Safety Officer for assigned
  • Monitor and inspect the job site for health and safety compliance, identifying any potential hazards that may result in injuries or accidents.
  • Implement all proper safety and health policies onsite, discussing any issues with the project manager, contractor, and other safety professionals.
  • Provide health and safety training and information to all employees onsite to ensure that site safety requirements are being met at all times.
  • Establish and manage a jobsite safety culture in accordance with Gray’s safety program.
  • Assist in onboarding and mentoring of new site safety team members on your assigned project.
  • Review, evaluate and make determination on contractor site safety programs.
  • Mentor contractors to help assure compliance with Gray guidelines.
  • Maintain owner and Gray specified safety records. Assist in developing project specific site safety plans and an emergency response plan.
  • Confers with supervisory personnel to resolve complaints and grievances within work force.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
Qualifications
Who We Want
  • Bachelor’s degree in occupational or environmental health and safety (or similar) and a minimum of 5 years of related construction safety experience or training OR a minimum of 5-10 years of related construction safety experience or training
  • Possess leadership skills that helps cultivate a cohesive and successful team
  • Light/heavy industrial construction experience
  • Must have ability to identify known potential exposures and lead implementation of corrective actions.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and problem-solving
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills and be able to communicate well both verbally and in writing.
  • Must possess basic computer skills including the ability to utilize Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.), tablets and
  • NCSO and Advanced First Aid strongly

This position requires travel as our projects are scattered throughout the United States and, in some cases outside of the U.S..

They are regularly required to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 lbs, and occasionally lift or move up to 100 lbs. Specific vision abilities include accurate near and distant vision.

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, and outside weather conditions. The team member is occasionally exposed to high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, extreme cold and/or heat, risk of electrical shock, explosives, and vibration. The noise level is generally moderate to loud. Overtime may be required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Will manage multiple subordinate team members. Responsibilities include training team members; planning, assigning, and directing work; rewarding and disciplining team members; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Indirectly manages subcontractors, consultants, and general laborers.
