Job summary

Chugach Government Solutions is seeking a Safety Specialist (SSHOs) to lead safety management for the NAVFAC Northwest AO projects in Gig Harbor, WA. You will develop procedures, perform audits, and ensure compliance with OSHA and EM 385-1-1 standards while coordinating with management and site teams.

Candidates should have 5 years of safety experience, DBIDS eligibility, and the ability to manage complex safety programs across multiple sites, with a focus on protecting workers and supporting

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of cumulative safety experience in the last ten years on similar projects.
  • Knowledge of Government contracting terminology and requirements.
  • Ability to obtain access to U.S. Government installations via DBIDS.
  • OSHA 30 Construction Safety training and EM 385-1-1 knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements safety procedures and policies; updates the Safety Plan as needed.
  • Performs safety audits, investigates accidents, and ensures corrective actions.
  • Coordinates with management, HR, and staff on workers' compensation and JSAs.
  • Maintains safety programs including PPE, fall protection, and hazard communication.

Position Location

This position is based in Gig Harbor, WA and will support project sites throughout the NAVFAC Northwest AO.

Job Overview

The incumbent is responsible for the safety and health management of all CSEL and subcontracted work activities to ensure all work is completed safely, the work environment is safe to all employees, and unsafe situations are identified and corrected. The SSHO is responsible for the safety responsiveness, and compliance of the company’s safety plan.

Responsibilities
Essential Job Duties:
  • Develops and implements safety procedures and policies. Writes and updates the Safety Plan as needed.
  • Performs safety audits, investigates accidents and ensures any needed corrective actions are completed.
  • Coordinates with management, Human Resources, and staff for workers compensation claims and actions. Develops job safety analysis (JSAs) to support restricted duty work assignments, claims management, and development of standard operating procedures.
  • Performs safety surveys (e.g. noise surveys, air monitoring, time and motion studies) to support personal protective equipment (PPE) policies.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain safety programs, including the following: Medical Surveillance, Respiratory Protection, Confined Space Entry, Hazardous Energy Control (Lockout/Tagout), Fall Protection, Ergonomics, Personal Protective Equipment, Hearing Conservation, Fire Prevention, Accident Investigation and Reporting, Hazard Communication, Electrical Safety and General Procedures.
  • Performs other related work as assigned.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensuring that project complies with all safety regulations state in 29 CFR 1910 and 1926, as well as state standards to avoid in fines, civil penalties, or criminal prosecution.
  • Timely, accurate, and cost-effective performance of duties.
  • Working closely and harmoniously with fellow workers.
  • Working closely and harmoniously with local customer officials and other regulatory agency personnel.
Job Requirements
Mandatory:
  • Minimum of three (5) years of cumulative safety experience within the last ten years managing or implementing a SOH program on projects similar in industry type, size, and complexity of the project described in the contract scope of work.
  • Knowledge of Government contracting terminology and requirements.
  • Knowledge of pertinent safety regulations and requirements necessary to perform the contractual obligations at this project location.
  • Knowledge and previous experience in accident investigation and reporting principles and practices.
  • Ability to obtain access to U.S. Government Installations through the Defense Biometric Identification System (DBIDS).
  • OSHA 30 Construction Safety training
  • EM 385-1-1
Preferred:
  • Experience using personal computers, office software, word processors and spreadsheets.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in verbal and written forms.
  • Ability to think clearly and decisively in emergency situations and lead others to perform under extreme conditions.
  • Superior analytical ability and mature judgment.
Working Conditions:
  • Work conditions are performed indoors and outdoors. Outdoors work is subject to temperature extremes and inclement weather conditions.
  • Work hours are subject to change.
  • Subject to hazards that may cause personal bodily harm; diseases, cuts, bruises, burns, common colds, influenza, dust odors and elevated noise levels.
  • Tasks may be performed on uneven, inclined, hand and soft-carpeted floors, cement structures and surfaces.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift 35 pounds
